Am I still the only person on /a/ who didn't like the ending? Especially that repetitive "hero" song
>>
>>142985634
Hero was great and the OST was fucking phenomenal. The ending wrapped everything up well enough but it felt a bit unrealistic for Peco to come out completely uninjured and turn pro.

The reason why it's not discussed here is because it's perfect. No ambiguity, direct to the point, meaningful and powerful message and beautiful execution.
>>
The manga is still better. Fuck Yuasa taking away from Matsumoto's vision.

So perfect that most people dropped it halfway because full episodes of 'experimental' animation is tiring, especially when the plot is inexistent.

Leave it to an ESL to be retarded. Maybe you're confusing what "plot" means in your native language, because the plot was there from the first episode.
>>
>>142985533

It's very good, but it's really not that special. It doesn't do anything groundbreaking, and it's not really exceptional enough in its own right to be given that sort of title.

It's a high-tier show, though.

No, it was just a really good execution of a pretty generic sports story.

No, it lacks novelty, and elements that transcend in the intent of the show.

It is, however, artisan in its execution - an example of very good craft.

Mr Robot was for the entire story the best one, but he always played worse against Peco, just because he knew his friend is better than him. But Peco started sucking hard, since he forgot what's the most important in ping pong.

In the end, Peco finally understood and Mr Robot could fight him with his full power and once again smile - because his fucking friend was back with 100% pure skill in the game.

Aesthetically impressive, and a simple to digest story/meaning behind it. Quite a nice series. A masterpiece? I don't think so, but it was a nice breath of fresh air. That kind of creativity is nice to see from time to time, and usually it's limited to movies and OVAs.

Were you even here when it was airing and immediately following? The people who hated it were far, far more vocal and annoying. It's probably why it has gotten such an intense fanbase now, as a reaction to the hate.

To be naturalized in Japan means to renounce your citizenship. It also requires a new Japanese name, which for Kong he chose Tsujidou.

It was pretty good but it never warranted the endless hype and fanboyism. Same as OPM.

Basically there is an immature Shounen audience who orgasms every time there is a show with good animation and some sort of perceived "depth", while in essence not being too different from any Shounen show.

>"it's not about the ping pong, it's about the friendships and connections of all the players!!!1!!!111"
I think it's masterpiece and I take huge issue with the people who say that. Ping Pong is more about the sport and sports in general than most other sports anime are. It's the ultimate sports anime. The characters just happen to be great and the voice acting is god tier. No other anime will so perfectly display the nature of competition.

Yeah, im sure thats why it was voted AOTS and AOTY in several polls right? Ping pong threads were amazing, the only people constantly shitting the threads were the NGNL retards, no wonder their shit anime was forgotten in less than a month, also season 2 never.
>>
No. It's not perfect but it is really good.
The problem is that it does the opposite of one of the main flaws concerning sport anime, namely putting too much focus on idealizing knowledge of the sport. The problem with this is that we don't see actual skill or knowledge being used to win. All we see, more often than not, is faces of character expressing their amazement of a person's skill or what happened. Had there been a mix of the two, it would have been perfect. Having a slide of all the character show shock over and over isn't good.

Something else that annoyed me was how wasteful it was to just not have China do anything. His arc in the story is rather interesting but to have to just fail twice without having done much is the story feels a bit wasteful to me. However, seeing as how Hero came out of nowhere and beat three of the most interesting players puts this to ease. It just sucks to see him lose so early.

Another point of imperfection is the woman in the show. She's a fiance to that other strong player, but she's only brought up and never really contributes or does anything. It's a waste of character and should've been removed.

That ending though. Holy fuck.

It didn't even need to be added but it made it so much better.

I agree with the second complaint, I'd have liked to see China catching more of a break once.

I really disagree with the third one, though - she helped to highlight Dragon's priorities and dedication to the sport, and just that one scene in the Christmas episode made me empathize with her a lot. She's not a central character, she doesn't need to move the plot forward a ton. Having good scenes of her own and helping characterize others is more than enough.
>>
>>143001542
I guess. I just think it would've helped had she had more of a presence with Dragon or we saw her cheering for him during his match rather than remain hidden. i dunno, something to give her more character.

But regardless, these are really minor nitpicks of something I really enjoyed.

>wasn't the point that his professional career would be short(ened), not non-exsitent?

In the end I don't think that was implied at all. The story treats it like a red herring. Picos knee injury was built up for half the show, and foreshadowed with the tale of Butterfly Joe, but rather than it not materializing due to weak writing...

Pico just isn't affected because he's the goddamned hero and no pain can stop him.
>>
>>143003312
he is still fairly young at the end of the show, and there's nothing that implies that he wont have the same end as butterfly joe

Theres also nothing that implies he will. At least not within the IMMEDIATE confines of the show without headcannon.
