My main concern is what do we make of the new ranked up Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon and new Red Dragon Jack card if Kaito (and Jack) won't matter anymore.
The fact that they've made these cards makes me think the allies from Synchro AND Xyz (and maybe even Standard) will come to Fusion when the rest of the Lancers and Sora join up with Yuya.
Reiji and Kaito don't know each other so it makes no sense for Kaito and Sayaka & Allen to stay behind when Yuya goes to Fusion and THEN join forces with Reiji to aid Yuya in Fusion. Unlike Synchro, there's literally nothing left to defend in Xyz, and Yuya's clearly going to need all the help he can get against Academia so obviously he won't just go with Edo. So I caught up on the last three episodes. They were kinda meh but a lot of stuff pissed me off.
1. Why is Yuya acting kinda arrogant again with his entertainment duel philosophy. He seems to be echoing his actions at the beginning of Synchro where he just took his dueling style for granted and tried to overwhelm his opponent with smiles and shit. I guess he's a bit better now since he's more focused and confident about it but at the same time he's still being stubborn about it like it will ALWAYS work and it's THE ONLY WAY. I also really fucking hate how he's making suboptimal plays too. Why do you pend summon Monkeyboard when you're better off using him as a scale? Why the fuck do you destroy all the jobelisk monsters rather than attack the ones who don't have monsters directly and take them out?
Speaking of which, why the fuck were the jobelisks allowed to attack Yuya when he didn't even make his first turn?
2. SINCE WHEN COULD THEY FUCKING SEE THE CARD'S EFFECTS? This just ruins a lot of the duels in this show now.
3. Really disappointed by Gloria and Grace. With just one duel all their villainous aura has been diminished and they're not threatening in the least just like what Yuri has become. Shit, was Yuya's dueling that potent to reach them so instantaneously and completely dominate them?
4. Characters are developing too quickly now. What the fuck happened to Kaito? Is he suddenly calm and collected off-screen? Did he just let those jobelisks go when he was way closer to carding Shun? Allen seemed to accept Yuya as a comrade, then vehemently denied his help when chasing after Sayaka, and then after beating the Tyler sisters he's like "Yeah you were my comrade all along man"
5. Pissed that Shun didn't get carded since something big needs to happen but all it takes is some chunks of rubble and he's knocked out cold after rescuing Sayaka? topkek m8
I know Yuya vs Edo is going to be more of this same bullshit but at least Yusho vs Dennis will be good.

They've been able to do that before.
Grace/Gloria are intrigued by Yuya, but they're not reformed. Do not mistake their intent.
Kaito came to his senses somewhat as a result of Sayaka's outburst in 105. It was pretty blatant from the way he didn't card Shun and simply walked away without a word. Also, he has no reason to let Academia have their way with the Resistance or its allies, so him helping there isn't out of character at all; before or after 105. The only questionable bit is why he didn't card Obelisk Force, but that could've been just a whim that doesn't need much looking into.
Allen accepted Yuya at first, but then when he heard he was Yusho's son he was like "fuck this kid" because he viewed Yusho and anything related to him as unreliable. He trusted Yuya because he proved himself. It's a fairly cleanly handled relationship, honestly.
They're definitely saving characters getting carded for Fusion arc; hell Sawatari's cards were just printed, so he's as good as dead. Shun getting carded here would be too sudden.

I felt like his shift was convincing enough considering his behavior before and after Sayaka's little freakout. Actually, not really. It's more an expert at making the audience infer development from the expressions of the characters.
No one really develops off-screen aside maybe sora and he had two eps spent with him sorting shit out in synchro.
Shun pretty blatantly accepted the lancers from 49 onwards with the exception of the lancers he didn't meet during the BR as shown by how he treated Gon as opposed to Dennis in 58. Dennis's constant antagonizing of him and his affiliation with the Lancers in 75 + Reiji altering his disk clearly made him lose trust for the Lancers as shown in 81. Hell, he still didn't seem to really trust Reiji in 95 as a result. He calmed down in 82 thanks to having a bonding moment with Crow, but he only really worked well with the lancers he fought alongside in the BR.
The character development is pretty well strewn out, the issue with character development in Arc-V is that it's rarely presented as the focus of any given situation, so it doesn't have the impact it should unless you're actively trying to pick up on how Y situation relates to X development. It's all fine development, but its presentation leaves a lot to be desired at times.

Being a serious show doesn't make something good. Arc-V has no tension in it because Yuya is a super hero who can't lose these days because he'll die if he does. Ash can lose Pokemon battles and grow as a character. Ash vs Wulfric was better than any recent Arc-V duel and that isn't even the best battle. Arc-V only had chuuni characters like Shun, Kaito and Edo going for it at this point. One just got rocked, one just did a face turn and the other is about to do a face turn. Arc-V has lost all steam because the main character is valued above all else.

In Synchro he realized that he couldn't let go of entame but at the same time he realized he can't just assume it will work everytime he uses it and that he needs a clear, focused goal which entame will help him achieve. He was very serious about it but also true to the entame style.
Here in Xyz it's like he forgot all that and he just knows it will work again on anyone. He thinks he's the "shit". Look at the duel against Grace and Gloria. Not once did he get scared of the thought of losing or anything, even when he and Shun were at 300 LP and they were at 10k LP. It's like he knew he was going to win and impose his entame will on them, and lo and behold that's exactly what he did. Judai gets in several ties after 100 and they all grow his character. Even winning against Brron caused Judai to "grow" because of what happened during the duel. Yuma lost Astral and grew due to being apart from him. Including getting his ass kicked over and over. The other members of the cast were growing during this time too. Yuya didn't grow after tying with Edo. Yuya didn't grow after Kaito. Yuya didn't grow after the twins. Nobody is growing in Arc-V right now. Kaito happened off screen, Shun is sleepy and the twins are boring. Edo is about to drink some Smile Potion and then we leave this dimension. So fun!

Yuya absolutely grew after Kaito. He recognized his efforts to reach him were too naive due to the fact that even if he wanted to level with him, there was no way for him to do so because he didn't understand the depth of Kaito's grief.
Sawatari showed evidence of his growth in 100 by not being selfish as fuck. Ep 3 Sawatari would've absolutely eaten that food, but ep 100 Sawatari did the right thing in spite of his hunger. He's overall more attentive to the struggles of others at this point.

Shun's development has been slow, but 105 capped off his synchro development really well and 107-109 shows him slowly opening up to the Lancers and requesting their assistance when early-mid shun was content to go on his own.

Edo losing to Yuya is a problem with the writing and his character as a whole. Yuya gains nothing from winning and shouldn't win in all honesty since their last duel required Action Cards and Yuto interference. Yuya hasn't become a better duelist since that duel. He grew after his loss to Jack which made his win believable. No such luck against Edo. Then again Edo is pretty scrubby in this show so who even cares at this point? Hope the next series doesn't pull this shit with the main character.
