What about the Millenium Falcon arc makes it all sunshine and rainbows, I mean Ganishka probably commited the most heinous acts in the story so far. Also Guts being this edgy loner with the story being all dark is far less than people like to remember. He was this edgy loner in the blackswordsman arc and Lost Children chapter, after that he meets up with Godo again he puts that behind him.
Also a scenario where Guts entire party gets massacred or sacrificed or whatever would be absolutely terrible and tragedy porn at this point. It wouldn't be anywhere like the eclipse, but would be more like some shitty GRRM plot where he kills off characters unceremoniously. The Eclipse only worked because the characters were written to die, and were developed as much as they needed to. Also the golden age is far more shouneny than current Berserk desu, it just had tits and gore to mask that. It's not really an insult, but a lot of tropes in shounen were present during the it. The whole three way BFF story between Guts, Casca, and Griffith is reminiscent to a lot of three way love triangles in other series. Then there's the constant upping the stakes by having a new army to fight like every chapter.
But hell even the relationships are more interesting than the Golden age characters (minus casca and griffith) to Guts. Serpico isn't some yes man, and if he feels Farnese is endangered he will not hesitate to attack Guts. Farnese is following Guts not just cause she's enamored by him or wants protection but also cause she's figuring out who she is in the world. Isdiro joining as Guts apprentice, but even him, if the time comes might leave once he gets what he wants out of the party. A lot of it is friendships of convenience and utility rather than just everyone blind worshipping Guts and being broish as hell with him, like say Judea or Pippin were.

I can get behind the humor yeah, even current Berserk is drawn in a far more animu aesthetic than ever. With the huge rounded eyes that everyone jokes about looking like aliens, and yes it does feel like (not just from Isdiro or Puck) that just about every character utilizes anime faces now. It happened early on too, but was used far more sparingly. I feel that part of the story is definitely going to show the most age in like 15 years, the same way that Black Swordsman arc also feels really dated and like a product of stories like Fist of the North Star.
I do think the slowish releases does tend to have people take their anger out on the series though. Even though in real time we've been on the boat for close to a decade, it's really not that long if you were introduced to the story now and read it in one go.
The general feeling of it being more sunshine and rainbows is just a calm before the storm atm. Griffith is fooling everyone at falconia, I'm sure it'll get "dark" again soon enough.

I made it sound like I hated Judea and Pippin, though I don't. I guess the new party is just more developed than the old band. Which makes sense seeing as how the golden age's main characters were Guts/Casca/Griffith. And despite being somewhat flat characters they were still interesting in a way and were developed as much as needed to serve the plot. Any more development for the old band would've broke the pacing, and they were still somewhat nuanced despite being flat. Corkus is actually my favorite of Guts' old band, cause he's one of the few that actually calls out Guts and holds him accountable for shit that most other people would. I mean he's not right, but a lot more of the BotH would be pissed at Guts for leaving and only coming back after they've been nearly wiped out. There's still lots of things that we need like Skull Knight/Godhand/Zodd flashback, how Silat and Rickert's relationship will pan out, among other things. At this point I think his fury was a bit overshadowed by the fact that he was being assaulted by one of the mightiest apostles who ever lived, after being wounded by Slan, half naked with barely any armor on at all, and no weapons or supplies other than the dragonslayer. That burst of rage let him get that first good swing in, but it went downhill pretty quickly after that. But had he been in top shape when he said that he might not have needed the berserker armor to go Hulk mode on his ass.
I honestly don't know what the ending of this series will be. The God Hand probably won't die, Guts himself doesn't really want revenge on Griffith. I hope its a satisfying one.

Nah, they're pretty cool. Irvine is too relaxed and chill to not be likable, and likes to spend most of his time alone taking it easy. Grunbeld and Zodd are your typical bloodknights living for the sake of the fight and fighting entire armies for fun, no matter how often I see that character type I never get tired of it. It's just so manly and frankly badass how they live for the moment they meet someone strong enough to kill them. Locus is the quintessential legendary knight of pristine reputation and valor, his immaculate shiny shinyness is second only to Griffith, but he backs up his reputation with undeniable skill and unlike Zodd and Grunbeld seems to hold fast to knightly ideals outside of just killing as many soldiers as possible. It's also really cool how and his apostle form is both unique and different. Raksas is just an asshole.
There's also the fact that they seem to have a soft spot for Sonia, which humanizes them and shows there's a little more to them than just fighting and killing shit left and right. I kinda wanted to see more of them in their downtime and how they interact with eachother when not training and discussing war tactics. Do apostles like, you know, hang out? Even they have to unwind sometime, right? I can see G and Z getting in a drinking contest one night that completely depletes the camp's mead reserves.
What do you guys think is more likely for Guts to be able to beat Griffith at this point, and what would you prefer?

I really don't think this is going to end a tragedy. Eclipse happened, that was Guts' moment of great despair, and the rest of the series, to me, seems to be him rebuilding a group of friends around him and actually managing to stick by and protect them this time, not making the same mistake twice. It'd be thematically a bit dumb to just have the same thing happen all over again, and I don't think Miura will make a despair ending after years of hope just to appease edgelords. The main party will survive; at most, Serpico will die.

100 percent agree, I'm not sure why so many people want another eclipse to happen to Guts' new party (unless they just HATE them as characters). Writing wise, it'd be a bit shit for it to happen now, and wouldn't have the same weight as the original eclipse. The main reason the old eclipse worked was cause of the massive amounts of foreshadowing towards it, and that the people who died during it were developed as much as they were needed while still being interesting despite being somewhat flat. If an eclipse happened now, it'd be like a GRRM level of bad writing where Miura would just kill off characters for shock value and cause he wrote himself into a corner and has no idea what to do with the remaining party members. Like I said before if Miura does that now, without properly building up to it, I'd lost almost all respect for him as a writer. Agree on Serpico being the most likely to die to. She's probably like necessary in that if she didn't survive Guts would've went insane after the eclipse, plus she's like the last bit of hope he had. I think most of Griffith's apostles are kinda like him in that they love being adored. As long as they are in a position where there is no cost to behaving nicely, they'll do it for their own ego, but there will probably come a point when they show their true colors. People are tools to them, and at the moment those tools are used to live out their hero fantasy.
