Its like Rosario Vampire; the manga is legit, while the anime plays up the fanservice element heavily, and tries to go anime original all the time. Yet people shout at them that they want the manga, so they try to retchange back the anime original elements back to what they're supposed to be in a half-assed way, only to end it once again in an anime original way.
Kind of like a lot of shounen stories that get ahead of the manga.

It would be one thing if they stopped after the end of the second volume where Illya gets back so they had content for another season next year with the manga hopefully getting far enough during that.
