The first half of ZZ Gundam is the most fun I've had watching an anime. Why is it considered bad?
The Saturday morning cartoon feeling is a little offputting after Zeta's brutal ending. I love ZZ, but it's easy to see why people end up dropping it around Moon Moon. Some people hate fun, and think Gundam should only be super serious war drama. Probably the same type of people that hate G Gundam.

I think the goofy part of it is great but also think the Dublin arc is the best one in any Gundam.

I haven't seen ZZ, but I do agree. The best gundam series I've seen, or at least a few of my favorites tend to be the fun ones.
Sunrise's strength is making psuedo real robot shows that are fun and atmospheric

Nah, hating G Gundam (I personally don't) is understandable, since it's a Super robot series which really does sort of go against what Gundam is. The original (and even consecutive installments) had some super-ish aspects left over but those aren't the traits it became known for.
I came into ZZ pretty quickly off of Zeta and I really liked it. I didn't finish it, but I didn't drop it because it was bad, I just stopped watching shows around then in general because of other interests and obligations.

It is pretty fun. Just that it's trying to go for light-heartedness and that doesn't really go well the hardcore fans. It was like how star wars did for the prequels.

The only tolerable thing in the first quarter to third is Marshmallow Cello, he at least has some idea of what he wants to do (Haman-sama, HAMAN-SAMA!)
I've never liked "uppity shit-kids,who are always right," especially when all their motivation is purely reactive.
Situation happens -> screaming about how wrong the logic of adults is -> child protegy solves the problem by virtue of none of the other characters being capable.
Mech design was pretty great though.
