Maybe the GitS movie will be good?

Cromartie High School

Rurouni Kenshin? Death Note movies?

Many manga get adapted into Drama's and they are often better then the source material.

I've only seen the first Rurouni Kenshin movie and it was nice besides a few things
The Usagi Drop movie was pretty decent too

As much as I like edge of tomorrow the ending is always confusing.
>>
It's not based off a manga or anything, but has anyone seen pic related? It's pretty fun.
>>
>>142863206
The ending is confusing because Hollywood twisted the plot to have a good ending. The novel had 'True End'.
>>

the Matrix is the best GitS live action adaptation
>>
Battle Royale was very good ofc.
Personally liked Ichi adaptation (even though manga is better) and Kamisama no iutoori wasn't half bad (till second half happened).

Higurashi, thou I am not fan of the series/games.
>>142862853
It was nice adaptation up until finale. I understand why they went for original ending but final brawl from source material would be so much better visually. Not to mention emotional, heh, impact.
A 6/10 experience. And I was disappointed by the ending.
>>142863540
For compressed experience true to the source plus really cute Rita, manga is also a alternative. Hell, read manga anyway.

It really looked like the very ending was changed after a tested screening. Like the audience would have preferred he keep the god-like powers.
>>
>>142863951
How is it good?
It's a boring action flick by a hack director.
The guy made Jumper, for god's sake.
>>
>>142863864
No. Only two named characters died in the end, war might be ended but for the first time humanity isn't totally screwed and Keiji becomes badass without loop powers.
It is a good ending, not a 'good ending', as in VNs.

>>142863951
Are you a game journalist or critic?
Anon above posted simple scale. What taste has to do with it?
>>142864236
Well, As bad as Jumper was, first half of the movie was enjoyable. And even latter had moments. London bus for example.
Anon, both Edge and Jumper were summer action movies. You can't expect greatness from summer action movies. In that frame, both were solid entertaiment with interesting premise. 6/10 is, for me, point were I will buy movie if I find it in bargain bin.
>>
>>142862110
The reason Edge of Tomorrow was good, relatively speaking, is that it didn't try to be a live action adaptation of an anime - instead it took the core conceits and characters and ran with them. Think how much stuff was sliced away so that it could become a good movie? You'd see the same thing in a good Attack on Titan movie, for example.

I think I can understand why they changed the mechs to being the exoskellies.

They wanted to be able to see the characters faces at all times, but didn't want to have the mech be without a helmet because it'd look silly in a serious movie.

Also, it's probably easier than a full body suit/CG

>>142862971
It's an enjoyable movie, but they butchered the story thematically and the final result has a lot of holes that really detract from it. The story breaks down when you start to put in some thought. It's a good hollywood movie, but a terrible adaptation.

Does the Omega know when the day resets? Can it remember the previous 'day'? If so, why does it make the mimics do the same thing every time? If not, how did it 'find' tom cruise? If it didn't 'find' him immediately day 1 and it can't remember through the reset, it would never be able to find him. If it can remember through the reset, why was it doing the same thing every time, being 100% predictable, and letting tom cruise get through everything to kill it?
>>
>>142865698
The movie visual style felt anime like.
>>
Are there actually more superior film adaptations than there are shitty ones?

Wouldn't surprise me, seeing as most mangakas have no idea how to write or where to go with their story beyond the wacky premise they sold to their publisher.
>>
>>142866048
Hollywood sacrifices artistic integrity for financially safer formulaic bullshit. So, no.

>>142862110
Edge of Tomorrow is absolute dogshit if you take it as an adaptation, for many reasons. Now, if you take ir as a stand alone, then you can say its alright.
>>
>>142865111
Power armor movement was a bigger disappointment than BATTLE AXE MISSING.
The only thing saving Edge of Tomorrow is that at the least it took the core concepts of the movie(ground hog day + alien bug invasion + stranger to the loop) and did deliver on them. Giving it a actual ending, was also sorta of nice.

>>142866208
>said but also technical difficulties of portraying visual part on a screen in a way that would please audience in the west
Not really. In a lot of cases, mangakas have enough understanding of screen space to do most of the ground work.
Which is why its always a shame when a Anime completely misses the point, because its a weekly rushed thing.

Also Hollywood is only scared of fight scenes for melee, since they are really bad at it, and the general direction is really poor.

Jumper would have been better if they played up the theocratic order trying to hunt the protagonist down. Maybe emphasize how and why Jumpers are viewed as superhuman abominations beyond a handful of lines about how they defy the will of God. Kind of like how Trask & the world powers in X-Men DoFP/First Class viewed mutants as an abomination and a long term threat to humanity's survival-----but perhaps from a more ideological/theocratic standpoint. Idk.

Still, both Jumper and Edge of Tomorrow were fun & relatively successful Summer action movies.
>>
>>142865246
I didn't have a problem with the ending-----it felt cathartic.

The intro I get as it needed to establish Cruise's initial coward/smug personality. But I think a minute or two of him pissing about in the base for the first time could have definitely been chopped off.

Plus, Emily Blunt was fantastic.

>Most fans of Kill were enraged that movie wasn't point by point visualization of novel.
Many fans of anything written that gets a visual media adaptation throw that fit. It's really silly. People in general don't seem to understand that being 1:1 just isn't possible for most adapations; they have to hold a new audiences attention constantly in a much shorter timeframe, stuff like monologues doesn't transfer well, etc.

I have seen some adaptations that hew fairly closely to the source, but then it becomes pointless to consume both. FMA the manga and FMA: Brotherhood, for example. There's no difference between my opinion of the two, because they're almost the same fucking thing.

The movie is pretty explicit; Jumpers are a violation of gods law, therefore Jumpers must die. That's a pretty solid motivation - and curiously, the movie doesn't do much to disagree. Both Jumpers are amoral pricks, who even aside from thieving are terrible to most everyone they meet. One deciding to save the girl he wants to bone doesn't change that.

It's also bad for relating to reality. I wonder why they didn't keep the terrorist bashing plot of the original book? It didn't have to be hijackings any more, they just could have had him start grabbing assholes from compounds some rando friend in the CIA tells him about.
>>

I think it was because Exoskeletons are a current military project that will probably enter service within a few decades. So it's more 'realistic' than a full-body power armour system.

Death Note was the absolute worst.

Cromartie and Assasination Classroom felt completely off.

Detroit Metal City would have been a better film if made by a more competent film maker. Not risky enough. Not nearly as madcap as the manga or OVA.

21st Century Boys is probably better than the manga. The first one is great, the second is incredibly accurate and the ending makes a bit more sense in the third one.

Gantz is pretty great. The things they changed for the movie are excellent and the first couple of arcs work much better. I haven't seen the second one but it looks way off base.
