>Seven fucking "transported to another world" series in the top ten best-selling light novels for this week

Has Japan hit the peak of its creative bankruptcy?
Are we just going to get more of this shit adapted into anime?
Overlord was already bad enough, you're telling me there's more of this in the pipeline?
Do publishers just enter trending light novel plots into a computer that spits out a dozen more hackneyed knock-offs that nips eat up anyways?
>>
>What is trend?

Everything shall pass.
>>
These are literally no name low sellers, who gives a shit.
>>
You know this isn't the first time a genre has been overdone.

They just don't do it like they used too
>>
Most western YA novels throughout history consist of a lot of "transported to another world" shit so I doubt it's just Japan.
>>
>>142845892
I thought the current YA trend was postapocalyptic dystopia.

Wow it's fucking nothing.
Some literally who's slipped through the cracks on a slow week for publishers. Big whoop.

Go take a look at cumulative yearly sales if you want some real trends. And guess what? The only isekai series that show up there are ones that already have an anime.

eastern trend is escpaism via going to a fantasy world and going from a nobody to being a special cool person.
western trend is escapism via being a special cool person and fighting some system/dystopia government in the future.
>>
>>142847188
Nah, it's more like enjoying your food less because it's a burger, a dish that has trashy fast-food connotations but can be a tasty and nutritious meal with the proper ingredients.
>>
>>142847188
It's just a plot device, what matters is the execution.

Why does it even bother you so much?
>>
>>142847130
>My best friends little sister can't be this cute
>>
>>142846616
There is nothing wrong with "another universe" as a plot device, but there is definitely something wrong when almost every story that uses it now also comes with the additional baggage of "it's a videogame-like world" and "the MC is a hikkiNEET who now has a cheat" as primary tropes, along with miscellaneous additional clichés that make all the worldbuilding pretty much identical no matter what series you are reading.
>>
>>142845801
Transported to another world is exactly as creative as any other fantasy novel, except for the fact that it allows you to let your readers explore the world starting from the base alongside the protagonist.
I don't understand you keep going autistic over it, do you also complain about the way love stories almost always have a hiccup right before the happy ending?
>>
>>142846969
There are two kinds of fantasy: one where the protagonist is transported to the fantasy world and one where they belong to that world already. Harry Potter is the first kind and the method of transportation is the train platform. Other methods include death, going through a gate (like the closet in Narnia) transported by magic, and some others like reading (Inkheart).
>>
>>142847561
>Transported to another world is exactly as creative as any other fantasy novel
Not when every single novel wants to be Mushoku Tensei.
>>
>>142847534
>it's a videogame-like world" and "the MC is a hikkiNEET who now has a cheat
Literally not a single such story is popular at the moment. The closest thing is KonoSuba, which might as well be the furthest thing from it since it's a parody of that very concept.
>>
>>142847534
I think the "it's a videogame-like world" is the worst trope that drags the fantasy genre in anime and LNs down. It makes sense if they're actually in a video game, but why the hell would just another world follow video game mechanics? "Leveling up" and learning "skills/abilities" is fucking idiotic.

The video game-like worlds are usually also boring and generic. No interesting geography, politics, flora or fauna, or cultures. Because that's how video games totally are, rite gaiz?
>>
>>142847628
Danmachi is pretty much like this but without the isekai bit. And it's pretty damn popular.

>>
>>142847217
Now I want to see a western YA premise but written in light novel prose.
>Eh, ehhhhh?! What's with this result?! "Special"? What's that?! Is this "System Class Analysis" broken?! Aren't "Specials" those legendary cheat-like existences that defy all the parameters of the "System"?! Isn't this designation supposed to be just a rumor that the "Lowlifers" spread? How can I, an ordinary teenage girl who grew up in an ordinary household with an ordinary set of parental units and a high-spec little sister that I'm just a slight bit jealous of be a "Special"? It's unbelievable! Not good, I think I'm going to pass out. Deep breaths, me! Haaaa, haaaaa...

Are you people really happy that Overlord sells so good? Literally all top selling LN's are garbage. LNfags have terrible taste.

It only confirms that it's self insert wish fulfillment trash on the level of Mahouka or SAO.
>>
>>142847964
That's not light novel prose, that's amateur translator prose. Let me apply the Yen Press™ treatment

>Wait, what? What's up with my results? The hell does it mean by "Deviant"? Is the Standardized Caste Assessment malfunctioning?

>As far as I know, Deviant refers to a legendary unclassifiable existence beyond the capacity of the system's parameters. But it's supposed to be nonsense, a rumor spread by gossip among the proles.

>How could I, an average teenage girl, who grew up in an average family unit, with an average pair of progenitors and an above average little sister (of whom I am a little envious) be classed as a Deviant?

>I can't wrap my mind around this. Dammit, I'm going lightheaded. Gotta take some deep breaths. *gasp**gasp*

Nah not really, many try to do their own thing like the one where the MC is trying to reform a kingdom(Genjitsushugisha no Oukokukaizouki) and so on.

But yea I guess the majority are still trying to copy/paste Mushoku or at least some of its parts.

I was initially on guard against the isekai trend following SAO, but I was positively surprised by LNs like Log Horizon and Overlord which had a quite different take on the concept and weren't trying to monkey the idea of SAO/.hack. Of course you get some shitty non-inspired works but it's not like you have to partake in them. We're just freeriding eleven culture anyway, no use focusing so much on the things you don't like.
>>
>>142847703
Log Horizon and Overlord are the only ones that come to my mind when you say interesting geography and politics, which are both isekai stories. Which non video game stories are you talking about that have interesting world building?

I thought this was the "naive ordinary girl unknowingly living in a dystopian fascist society discovers she's more special than she thought" premise, not the "hardened, headstrong girl knowingly living in a dystopian fascist society volunteers herself for the Hunger Games in the place of her little sister" premise.

>Japanese readers have even come up with memes to make fun of the recent trends. 「俺TUEEEE」(“I’m so stroooooong”) basically means “Overpowered MC”. When a story is filled to the brim with all the various wish fulfillment tropes, it’s referred to as a narou-type work. Narou comes from Shousetsuka ni Narou! (“Let’s become a novelist!”), which is far and away the most popular website for posting amateur web novels. If you check out the top-ranked series, the vast majority are isekai stories where the MC does pretty much nothing to earn his 俺TUEEEE status.
