Not really. In fact, I'm watching the show right now. And the 'cute' aspect of the girls didn't really start becoming a factor until some 35 episodes in. The show is really all over the place in style and story material. One episode will be like a mock Die Hard. The next is a crazy parody of super heroes. Then the next is a date episode.
All I can say is that I'm enjoying it way more than Ah! Megami-sama. Which I already liked Ah! Megami-sama. But one of the main girls is like Belldandy, but with a personality. The other main girl is like Keiichi's sister on (literal) steroids. And one of the girls isn't even a girl.

The first four OAV episodes have some of the best animation I've seen for anime.
The TV series started off really REALLY low budget and slow. But once you look past the animation, the characters and story are terrific. The show doesn't take itself seriously most of the time and even breaks the fourth wall. But it also takes itself seriously at the right times. Its very well done.
My only issues with the show is it is bordering on mechanical porn. So many episodes focus on bikes and cars, it starts to get a little ridiculous. But even with this, the show mocks itself. The other issue is the absolutely horrid translation the official DVDs got. But that's not the fault of the show, rather the distributor. Whoever subtitled this should be shot.

The old series was great. Cute traffic cops fighting crime, gaining archnemeses (STRIKE-MAN) and actual progressing romantic developments peppered in. Also Ken's dad is manly as fuck and married a cutie younger than his own son because he's that fucking alpha.
The more recently produced animoo dropped the male romances and dialed up the yuri subtext. Was mostly disappointing.
