So this establishes he's 17 years older than his baby self by the time the androids and cell games shit happens. He then goed back to his time, kills the androids, waits 3 years, then kills cell. So he is now in his early twenties when he kills cell.
If he were to travel 17 years, it would be 3 years after the cell games. Potentially 4 years after if black came a year after cell died.
A lot of people forgot, but Trunks also said that it took a year to make that fuel ("only that much fuel after a year?") which implies black had already been there for a year. So 4 years after cell games.

All in all Vegeta has it best by far, sure Trunks isn't SSG (not in the future timeline anyway) but he sure is more of a success than Yam- I mean Gohan. Goten is being ruined by Chi Chi AGAIN, and Trunks at least seems to train with Vegeta quite a bit.

The original time machine was powered by 6 turbines that needed to fuel it's trip to the past, which had to be collected by Trunks, and even then the machine only had enough power for two trips back.
It's safe to say that the turbines are at Capsule Corps and the blue fuel stuff is Bulma's way of trying to get it to run again, probably a stupidly rare substance.

There is some time period between Cell's death and Black Goku's arrival.
They'd have enough time to at least try to find New Namek. Black Goku doesn't seem that good at sensing ki anyways, he was only able to sense Trunks' after a year, even if Trunks' was hiding it like he did with Frieza, even others were able to instantly sense him.

There is no way mai is younger than Trunks. The Androids killed Piccolo so no more dragonballs shortly after they arrive. Trunks is a baby in that time. Mai is slightly older. Only in the super/bog timeline is she younger because her wish came much later than future trunks timeline mai because piccolo never died.
