If I'm close to the end of a series and bored with it, I'll play it on one monitor and mess around on another monitor. I won't be paying attention, but at least I'll have some vague idea of what happens towards the end and I can just delete it from my backlog. I don't have a MAL or anything so I'm not concerned with having a higher # of finished series, but I'm a bit autistic about file storage and if I 'dropped' it, I'd keep the files in case I ever wanted to finished it. I remember doing it with the last stage of Initial D, Sengoku Basara, Record of Lodoss War and Sora no Woto.
I tend not to drop shit I watch as it airs. I have no inclination to finish Bungou Stray Dogs or Kiznaiver this season but it's only an episode a week so I'll just watch it.
