This has to be the dumbest most pretentious way to tell a story I have ever encountered. Did the author just want to piss off the reader/audience as hard as possible?
I understand 'YOU CAN'T TURN YOUR BRAIN OFF YOU HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION ITS SO DEEP' but taking your plotline and sticking it in a fucking blender doesn't make your story any more interesting, just more frustrating to take in.

I had no problem following the plot at all and I would not like Baccano as much if they dumbed it down. The strange ordering made the plot move in an interesting way and just kept up the great vibes the whole way through.
I watched this when I was 12 or so, easily can turn your brain of, I wish more anime did this.
If you want something pretentious to bait with try Eva, Ergo Proxy, Tokyo Ghoul or Cowboy Bebop.
Those are ACTUALLY PRETENTIOUS shows that have an obnoxious underage fanbase claiming it's some sort of Magnum Opus

It's a bit depressing, I didn't find out about Baccano until 2012 or so. That was the first time I watched it, hell I was only watching Sailor Moon and shit on Toonmai when I was 12. I didn't go out of my way to start streaming anime until I was like 16 or something.
