If I remember correctly, there were two Escanors who were defeated by Gawain. They both shared traits in common with Nakaba's Escanor. The first was Escanor the Large who had the the whole power up with the sun thing. While the second Escanor the Handsome was related to some sort of royalty. Both were defeated by Gawain, but only the first one was killed by him. The second one became friends with him.
Who even knows if Gawain is going to appear. He is supposed to be Arthur's nephew. So Nakaba will probably just use his namesake.

I just hate that they made a weakling the new MC, hopefully will get some power upgrade for Arthur. I doubt he'll surpass Meliodas but Magic Knights can still stand on par with demons if they are strong enough. It's just that Meliodas was a demon who also became a magic knight, but even when not using his demon power he was still leagues above the other magic knights so that's just proof that you can be just as strong as Meliodas and not be a demon.
