Holy shit! Just how broken is her power?

Given the proper training she could deflect bullets with her hands.
>>
>>142683367
Are there even bullets somewhere
>>
She needs all her fingertips to touch something for her ability to work. The villians could just cut a finger from her and she would be useless.
>>
>>142683367
>implying she won't be useless as Sakura or any other female main character in shounen manga
>>
>>142683494
That can easily be changed if the plot demands
"She can do it with one finger now. She only needed training"
>>
>>142683367
Things she can do.

*Touch a villain, apply pressure, send villain into space, if the burning o-zone doesn't kill it the near absolute zero of space will. Only villains with some sort of thrust, flight or mobiliity that would work without gravity can coutner it

*Pick up something ridiculously heavy and drop it on baddies

*Strap jet packs onto all team mates and give them flight

She's has really good offense in melee range but has no defensive powers which is why she has to have a utility role. She could probably do some heavy damage if she had a team mate that could disable the enemy or give her some sort of protection/stealth allowing her to get close

This will probably never happen because she is the dedicated moe blob and will stick to cute support role.

I'm curious, I've seen videos where in a vacuum, a hammer and a feather falls at the same time. If I throw a hammer and a feather towards your face at the same speed. Would they both feel the same? Let's assume it's thrown at 50mph.

You may have a point, but the point is lost on somebody who doesn't see the difference between weight and mass (inertia).
I am not familiar enough to say for certain what her power is (though I am inclined to agree with you) but you need to rephrase your point.

No, the mass is different, so the momentum would be different, and thus the force different

I haven're raged so hard at a thread in so long.

Yes, objects still have mass as has been demonstrated by the things she's affected and the explanation of her powers. The ONLY thing that she cancels out is the downwards acceleration, and thereby force (m*a=F), applied to everything on earth.

If the a!=g then any object is still going to have a bunch of force and momentum behind it.
>>
>>142688887
No they wouldn't.

See >>142691315
>>
>>142692836
That's precisely why they would arc upwards.
Learn to physics.
>>
Hey, /a/
You're next
>>
Everybody is being retarded.

Look, when light hits you the photons are hitting you at the maximum speed in the universe, but the don't push you, the just bounce because they are weightless.

Same with the bullets, no matter the speed, them being weightless means their mass would do shit, they would just bounce as well.
>>
>>142693273
>the don't push you
That is not entirely correct.
>>
>>142693366
The mass is minimal, but remember that they are moving at the speed of light and thats several orders faster than any bullet.
>>
The bullets would still have a mass, so she'd still be pretty dead, even if she managed to get her hands in the way of the bullet.

However, she can make allies bullets fly perfectly straight, which seems like it'd be useful if you need to shoot a long distance.
>>
>>142693273

Okay answer this: if an asteroid hit the planet it would make a huge crater but if that same asteroid hit a spaceship in deep space it would just bounce off?
>>
>>142693841
Look, the metering the sphere marked infinite, that meas the vector wont change, no matter what. The mass in the objects means shit if she touches it.,
>>
>>142686711
I was gonna back you up but then I remembered she was able to swing that pillar in the mock battle
Even if it wasn't affected by gravity that's still way too much mass to casually swing
Then again it was able to hit things without falling apart, which it... probably couldn't do well if it was massless?
Making objects have no mass just doesn't really make any physical sense as a thing you can do but it does kinda seem like that's what she's doing
>>
>>142694529
Her swinging the pillar was just Hori being an idiot
She can only manipulate gravity and has a limit of 4 metric tons if I remember correctly
If Hori had done his homework, the pillar's inertia would stop her from swinging that thing all willy nilly
>>
>>142694529
Actually what bothered me was the fact that the accelerated debris did not kill the class rep. If my theory is correct the acceleration should near the speed of light the moment she hit it.
>>
>>142693820
>However, she can make allies bullets fly perfectly straight,
No, she can't.
Long range bullets are mostly subject to wind currents anyway, but if we're talking only about vertical movement, then you are still wrong.
Do you know what happens when you drop a piece of iron into a glass of water?
It drops to the bottom of the glass.
Now drop a bit of lithium into the same glass? What happens?
It catches fire.
Bad idea.
Drop a piece of ice into the water and watch it stay at the surface because it's weight divided by volume (density) is less than that of the water.
The same thing applies to our air. Anything with zero mass would rise. That's the secret behind zeppelins.
>>
>>142694873
>If my theory is correct the acceleration should near the speed of light the moment she hit it.
You're fucked up.
Holy shit.
>>
>>142694873
If you IMAGINE a 10 foot sword being in your hand (imaginary swords having a mass of 0 and an air resistance of 0), you would still not be able to accelerate that thing to anywhere CLOSE to light speed, because your muscles are just not that super.

But let's say she did accelerate it to 90% lightspeed.
Yes, that would have been lethal for the class rep. And everybody else in the neighborhood.
http://what-if.xkcd.com/1/
>>
>>142694873
>If my theory is correct the acceleration should near the speed of light the moment she hit it.
What exactly are you thinking here?
Something like "the debris is massless, so because f = ma even a small amount of force would give it a huge amount of acceleration?"
First of all that wouldn't have happened because she didn't use her power on the debris, just the pillar
Even if she somehow did use her power on all the debris, making it massless, she's still hitting it with another massless object
I'm not even sure how to describe a collision between two massless objects but somehow the "masslessness" would cancel itself out and you wouldn't get insane acceleration

Moron.
Velocity is relative.
You could have a point if you were referring to Earth's constant acceleration. But even then, no.
She would however be a plaything of the wind, and she might be pushed out of the atmosphere if she doesn't deactivate her powers in time.

If she's turning off all gravity she'll start moving in a straight line tangential to her previous "orbit" and be distanced by the earth that is continuing on its circular path.
>>
>>142696209
>she'll start moving in a straight line tangential to her previous "orbit"
That's what I meant when I said acceleration.
But she is still surrounded by an atmosphere that is largely immobile and Earth is huge. The difference in vectors is minimal.

>>142689251
I bet you think this is funny.

>>
>>142697683

Gravity as a force, thats is still up in the air.
>>
>>142693007
Curious, what forces would cause the bullet to arc slightly up?
>>
>given proper training she could deflect bullets with her hands
She nullifies gravity not fucking inertia, hell if she touched a bullet it would be maintain its speed and never slow down until it hits something since gravity would no longer exert force on it. Also she needs to touch something with all 5 fingertips for it to activate so a bullet would be too small for her to place all of them on it.
>>
>>142693007
While technically it would go in a perfectly straight line, we would PERCEIVE it as curing in an upwards arc due to the downward curvature of the earth.

>>
>>142699042
Strong force, weak force and electromagnetism are still in effect.
>>
>>142698944
Her power has demonstratively defies Newton's first law of motion.

"an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed unless acted upon by an external force"

So you have bullets that travel perfectly straight, forever, without losing their initial speed, until she lets go of them.
>>
>>142699123
>So you have bullets that travel perfectly straight, forever, without losing their initial speed, until she lets go of them.
For one thing, that's not in defiance of Newton's law because it's precisely what the law says.
For another, they wouldn't actually do that because factors other than gravity still apply.
>>
>>142697590
Now that I think about it, doesn't that mean Uraraka is canceling out curvature of spacetime itself? Curvature which is dependent on mass? Meaning she does in fact temporarily eliminate the mass of objects, meaning OP had an actual point?
>>
>>142699184
But if factors other than gravity apply, there is no way she could have sent a ball flying to outer space, right?

Hence why her powers defy the law.
>>
>>142699249
>Curvature which is dependent on mass?
>Meaning she does in fact temporarily eliminate the mass of objects,
That does not logically follow.
Your skirt follows the pull of gravity as it hangs from your waist.
But if you lift your skirt that doesn't mean that gravity is killed. Counteracting the effect of something, does not remove the cause.
>>
>>142699091
>Strong force, weak force
Useless on the macroscopic scale, but I forgot about electromagnetism.
>>
>>142699271
>But if factors other than gravity apply, there is no way she could have sent a ball flying to outer space, right?
Yes, she could, easily.

Read >>142694927.
>>
>>142699271
We are talking about moving objects with volume but with zero mass.

I don't think there is much knowledge on that subject, or at least not on objects big enough to cause drag or friction.
