I just reread (what's translated of) Love Junkies today and looking through it the spineless self-insert "lucks his way into ecchi" morals-kun is a complete dirtbag. The "playboy friend" that's supposed to be someone the reader is made to feel superior to has so much more moral fiber in his little finger than the protagonist has in his entire body. The protagonist literally cheats every other chapter but gets away with it morally (and it appears the author agrees) because he "loses control" after an erection or the girl throws herself at him or some other bullshit.
Also the playboy is the only guy who is actually a genuinely normal, nice, well-adjusted person, yet his "girlfriend" and him both fuck other people (but he does it offscreen, she doesn't).

Entry level garbage. I've read a lot of shoujo, and the tell of a truly good one is one where jealousy isn't used as a vessel to advance a relationship. When such happens you start to walk a very fine line between actual romance with the heroine, and some kind of male testosterone-driven quasi-competition where they're more concerned over beating one another. That isn't to say there can't be love triangles, just the love rivals shouldn't exist so little girls can schlick to the heroine being half-raped by various ikemen because the serious love interest can't.
Anyways I really live the pre-2000 stuff. A lot of them had male leads and understood that the "Just a Normal Girl" heroine should naturally simply be an addition to the high-spec guy.
Some of my personal recommendations are Mars, B-Eyes, Cipher, and Angel Sanctuary (up to about volume 10). Angel Sanctuary is truly some good imouto incest, makes Oreimo look like a preschooler's nap-time story.
Basara was also good, but only when the male and female lead were together. It was a dual perspective but it still felt to be pandering to female readers a little too much.In particular forgiving a sadistic genocidal double-agent ex-tyrant and letting him get to second base with you simply because he's hot as shit and also a "good guy" now seemed a little forced. Especially when the male lead literally punched the female lead's love rival when she tried to get his affections by following him into some hot springs.Sorry, I just needed to rant about that one.

Man, the only reason I'm reading Cesare is to see which version of Lucrezia's pregnancy they go with. Cantarella was such a fucking cop-out. They spend half the Lucrezia pages with monologues about how she can never love anybody but her brother. She even goes through an entire marriage without having sex with her husband because she's saving her first for Cesare. But she gets over him in like a day after being rejected and finds her "true love" with Cesare's servant/assassin (whom she's only met like, twice). Then she fucks him in a monastery and they run away from Cesare (who is literally going insane because of demonic possession and Cesare's servant is supposed to be the one to stop it but he's too busy banging his imouto).
Lucrezia's bastard child's paternity is historically claimed by Cesare and strangely enough of Rodrigo (papal politics huh?), but it's really just a myth since her child was likely sired by a guy named Perotto. However, this is a Japanese mango and we all know how much they like their brocons. It'd probably make Cesare a bit more interesting if he banged Lucrezia as rumored.
