no, ger isnt an asspull. the entire fucking part was shrouded in the mystery of the various arrows. parts 4 and 5 actually tie neatly together by showing just how fucked the arrow is.
part 4 gave us the intro to what causes stands, how they manifest, and shows us killer queen who changes by having kira be pierced by the arrow. the stando mysteries evolve with koichi and echoes as echoes evolves throughout the part.
part 5 continues this mystery by beginning with shit like black sabbath. weird stands are shown in passione as the gang struggles to find the boss, and later, find the arrow. the initial arrow they had from polpo didn't cause requiems but it could have given additional powers ala bite the dust, but they never tried it. the chapters leading up to the encounter with polnareff, the backstory of diavolo and the whole latter end of part 5 really finish off the interesting tale of the arrow. giorno, being chosen by the arrow, gets granted ger while diavolo, despite stabbing himself, got dicked over. the arrow even tried to get away from him as its some weird alien shit.

I don't see what's so bad about it. The prophecy thing being a bit far fetched is a very small slight in the grand scheme. I think the part that bothered me most in hindsight is that half of Joseph's ruses amount to "I tricked you while you weren't looking, by doing something I really shouldn't have been able to do" although I guess you can argue that's part of the charm.

Devil trips tell lies, GE is just confusing because Araki never stopped and told us its powers. It can do a lot of shit, but it's thing is that it can give life to non-living things, and give functions to it (like follow their owners), Giorno can also "leave" GE's ability to trigger later, like he did with Cioccolatta. His ability is only truly kind of dumb in the begining, where Giorno could accelerate sensations and reflect damage for whatever reason

Giorno just knew how to use his Stand. It's kind of like Josuke with the whole final fight with Kira, he did so much crazy shit with his stand just by being creative. Giorno BASICALLY only had one ability, and the ways he used it were creative.
Whitesnake is the most bullshit stand in my perspective, the fucker did that weird "melting room" thing in the first few chapters and never again, he also was show to be able to put Stand discs in non-living objects such as water for no reason, and he was also able to disguise himself as Weather because...fuck it, right?

Its power is cool, no doubt, but it's so ill-defined. What the hell is preventing Jo2uke from going "lol I just took the life from your body"? It's obviously not limited to physical properties since he can take friction and sound. All the other Stands are simple and rarely ever step outside of the very specific rules set for them, which leads to the JoJos coming up with very creative ways to utilize them. Soft and Wet is so vague you can be creative with it even if you don't have a hint of ingenuity. The very nature of Jo2uke's Stand lends itself to varied and unique usage, and there's no known hard cap on its power like with the others.

Uh, no. Sorry dude but this isn't a discussion you're gonna win me over on. The "imagination/knows how to use it" argument falls so flat for me when the Stand itself is nearly unbound in terms of what it can do. Having a Stand that can transform objects into living things that perfectly fit ANY situation is an asspull machine, plain and simple. It's nothing like Crazy Diamond, which has strict rules, meaning the situation has to conform to those rules. The rules behind GE are just too fucking broad. It allows way too much room for way too much convenience.

Araki wrote a character that could steal ANY stand, but the three abilities (disguise, sleep drippy room and hot water) he used came out of nowhere, and yes, one of them was shown to be created because of the disc, but the other two were totally asspulls.
