Their relationship is weird. Hisoka's "10 left" proclamation at the end of chapter doesn't match up to the current spider count, so they appear to have taken at least one more on since we last knew of their number. We also know that Hisoka's thoughts drift to wanting to cause maximum suffering for his victims (See the whole chapter about killing Killua or Alluka first) so he might just have spared Machi to see her get really, REALLY pissed off before he tries to off her.

There aren't characters that are stronger than others and are gonna win 100% of the times against them. Nen battles depend on a variety of circumstances.
What Togashi showed is that in that particular arena, surrounded with hundreds of people that he could turn into puppets and other 2-3 powers that are really compatible with those, Chrollo could beat Hisoka. So long as he sees the ability, gets the info and puts the palm on the book he steals it, all of these are pretty trivial when the other party is willing.
The point of Skill Hunter is that the power is offset by how difficult it is to clear the requirements against strong enemies with strong abilities (see Silva and Zeno).
In this case he bypassed all that shit and basically got the abilities for free. A pussy.
