Unless they had family there, no one up here cared any beyond the same sort of "oh, that's terrible" that you reserve for seeing charity ads for people getting starving in Africa. Yeah, you could see the footage if you tuned in during the few days following 9/11, but it was still the same abstract sort of tragedy that doesn't really hit you because it's a county away.
