Not really, in the original anime plus EoE we follow a general human theme moreso than an escapist one. The anti-escapism message is ironically the work of otaku who project their own self-loathing and insecurities onto Evangelion.

Considering the 2nd Rebuild as it's most popular example still puts it well below e.g Ghibli, One Piece or similar works that are more mainstream.

Seriously. There's nothing that Asuka did that Shinji couldn't have done himself. The only angels that she was actually instrumental in taking down were the giant fish, the music one and Sandalphon. None of which Shinji and Rei couldn't have done themselves. At most she was canon fodder while Rei tossed the spear at areal. Asuka literally added nothing to the team. Given a chance I think even Touji would probably do a better job than her.

guys. help me understand evangelion. I have recently watched it for the first time.
I watched the show from episode 1 - 26. Then I started watching death and rebirth, but stopped it soon because i realized it was just the show in a short format. then i watched the end of evangelion (i was blown away).
My conclusion was that the anime essentially is show episodes 1-24 + the end of evangelion being the last 2 (real) episodes. when i went back to death and rebirth i saw that after intermission theres actually something new coming, but its really just what is shown in end of evangelion again..
Now i find out some days ago that there is this 1.11, 2.22 and 3.33 shit. what about that? is it just another stupid remake of the show? And who the fuck is that third girl i know nothing about, and why is she making me so angry?

Episodes 25 and 26 take place during the "Instrumentality" section of EoE. When Shinji is in the "dream world", he is also going through the introspection present in 25 and 26. After the congratulations scene, Shinji wakes up, speaks with Rei about dreams in EoE, and then he is released back into the real world.
As for the Rebuilds, no one knows yet. They could be a sequel, a prequel, or just a bizarre remake of the series.
