There are many factors that need to be considered for a good cup of tea. The temperature of the water, the temperature loss when pouring the water into the cup, the quality and type of the leaves, the brewing time, how restricted the leaves are during the brewing, and so on.

The only white tea I've ever had was White Peony, and that definitely tasted much different from any black tea I've had (in a good way). That said, in my experience the super expensive teas aren't good enough to justify their price compared with the ones around the middle of the price range.

You can easily ruin a good tea in various ways like using the wrong water temperature, steeping even a bit too long or to a lesser extent too short, using the wrong amount leafs, using water with shitty quality (e.g. too much lime), using a sieve that's too coarse etc.
