That reminds me of that pic where they group loads of characters to each visual resemblance. But I think people like most of those characters even if they look similar, while the only thing that comes out of Asterisk is "Pink Houki" which is meant to be more of an insult.

It was in the same boat as Rakudai, it even had better reception for some people when compared to Rakudai. But then a jewtube reviewer, who's a professional troll doing it for the money, made whole series of rant vids that picked up attention due to the reviewer going around shilling his vids. Compound with the fact Rakudaifags were at odds with Asterisk, they took those vids and used them to detract Asterisk as though it was the worst thing ever even though Asterisk is just mediocre, neither bad or good.
