Everyone died in the last arc of Rave Master, and they all came back due to Stellar Memory.
That's how he writes his stories, and its not that bad since you at least get to see them all try to go out in a cool moment. No one actually wants consequences in this type of story, they want it to work out, but during the apex of combat they still want it to feel like there's danger so there can be suspense.
You can kill them all, and fix it at the end with deus ex.

Thats true but it isn't avoidable, I mean look at the One Piece. Oda made quite of times many of side characters relevant in some aspect, even if it was just for duration of one arc, some characters stay relevant for multiple, but he bothers to make something out of tham rather than a keychain to a main character, and that's exactly what Levy became.
Like anon said before, she was given one of most unique and versatile magic in entire series, and she's pushed down to be decoration for Gajeel. Mind you, I like them as couple, I really do, but their story had vay too much potential than 3 chapters of Gajeel's angry face.
