Planet Ragna is lively with the jellyfish festival that comes once a year. For a brief moment Walkure and Delta squad both forget the tensions of war and enjoy themselves. There's also legend that if two loves vow their love beneath a jellyfish on the night of festival that honors the seagod, they'll be bound together forever.

I don't see how they aren't developing the MCs. Hayate is certainly not the same person he was in the first episodes for exaple. And how are the character motivations at a low? One thing I think the show has been good at is letting us know what the characters are about both main and secondary. I mean the attitude toward Messer and Kaname practically changed overnight following the last episode. If anything I'd say Frontier and 7 were the weak ones in terms of character motivations

I have a feeling that Hayate will end up with Freya in the end. In all the previous series the Pilot/Soldier MC shunned the cutesy Idol/Songstress character for the stronger, more mature female. We see little connection between Mirage and Hayate (although that doesnt mean much,) and with Hayate and Freya "resonating" together it seems logical that they will fall in love or end up together. This also seemed plausable to me with Kawamori stating in his recent Forbes interview that "things will be different in Delta from the previous Macross series.". From what I remember he was speaking in reference to the love triangle specifically. If this is so im a little dissapointed as I think Freya is a shit character and Mirage gets buku points from me for being the Granddaughter of Max and Millia! I admit in SDF Macross I was def rooting for Minmay and in Frontier Ranka was by far my choice for Alto over Sheryl but this new runed idol just doesnt steike the right chords with me. Her portrayal of the cute, helpless, ditzy, shy girl arent anyway near as endearing as Ranka or Minmay.
Also I think Frontier was far superior to Delta from what we have seen. The dogfighting and space battle scenes were much more intense, more frequent and detailed than Delta by far. Has anyone noticed that none of the pilots shoot down incoming volleys of missiles, which is a Macross staple?! Now the VF's just let their BS energy shields take the brunt of most attacks! Im very dissapointed in the battles in Delta, they are lackluster and not true to the series at all. Why was Hayate's "Dancing" in his mech a focus in a few earlier episodes but absent and irrelevant now? Mikumo does mention the "Immelman Dance" in the previous ep (ep 9), but Hayate's VF wasn't in Battroid mode or even shown dancing in the slightest? Im REALLY hoping this series improves soon or it will be a major if not the BIGGEST failure for Macross in its history IMHO.

I disagree with this. For two reasons, first of all, the dogfighting in Frontier wasn't really existent. It was just shooting down bugs. The only dogfighting that could actually be dogfighting was when Alto and Brera would face each other. Now this changed in the movies when the Vajra were shown doing some manuevers but for the series, no. The second reason is that how can you not call the dogfighting detailed? We get teamwork, usage of the terrain, clear difference in the space fights and the fights in the atmosphere if you pay attention. It's not that Fronter's fights were bad but to call them superior, I can't agree with.

How does that make Mirage a good character? Sure that is something they could eventually deal with but for now one of the biggest complaints to Mirage is that she really hasn't done anything despite being a Jenius granddaughter

What? Hayate is clearly the best boy. Confident, fun, cute looking and obnoxious only to a certain point, who is also pretty sensitive.
I'm liking both the main characters in delta more than in the past series, that's the main reason I'm enjoying delta so far.
Talk about deserving better, I think Kaname deserves better than an emo self destructive mutant.
