Has there been an anime that got as much hype as Panty & Stocking? Only ones I can think of are Penguindrum and Kill La Kill.

Too much scatological humour. Most of the show is really bad with a couple of decent to great short stories.
The ending didn't make me mad because the entire show makes no sense, might as well go all out.

Hype? It appeared out of nowhere. It had a fairly well appreciated run, especially the animation. But mostly it had hate along the 'powerpuff girls western cartoon ripoff that's shit' lines.
It wasn't particularly popular, it was fairly polarising.
The ending was a shitstorm but that was about it.
