I think most Hisoka fans expected him to be a true magician and stretch his powers to the logical limit, when those limits are far more restricting than people think.

How the fuck was the dartboard fight an asspull? If the siblings had been set up as the final boss and Killua being a darts genius was brought into the story at the last minute to resolve the situation with no foreshadowing, maybe it would be an asspull. But as it was, it was just a random fight involving a power he coincidentally was able to counter. A character happening to have a mundane skill like darts isn't an asspull.
The real issue with that fight was how goddamn broken their ability would be on anyone else. But it was only ever used for entertainment and to advance the plot, it doesn't really matter in the end.
