Netero was pretty much the only major character to die in the whole series that had been involved since the very beginning

The only antagonists are what the protagonists make their antagonist(s). After the whole modesty-style arc Gon had with Hisoka's exam badge, that should've been it for Hisoka's involvement with the main characters aside from being the casual neutral character he was in later arcs and in this current battle.
Kurapika was the same as the Troupe members would've forgot he existed if he didn't go on his vengeance route.
The plots were great in their respective arcs, but the story doesn't revolve around further development of such antagonism being forced out.

Hisoka is the kind of guy that is going to do whatever he wants to do, and you just have to accept that. After Chrollo's extensive explanation of just exactly how screwed Hisoka was, he must have realized the fight was suicide but it was too late. Hisoka's had a raging hard-on the entire time regardless.
I kind of want both to die at this point because I find the people getting really heated up and aggressive about muh quwrof and muh clown pretty obnoxious. To blow out every single fanboy would indeed be the best result, even though I like both characters.
