Those kind of mystery can be done well. If you want to do mystery though you put all the cards on the table and mislead the reader by constantly forcing the protagonist to go down the wrong way and lower the possible ways for things to happen, only to show at the end how it happened, not leave something out and claim it's a mystery when someone finds it on the last seconds. For instance, it could be justified if someone said "the tablets that explain how shit happen were outside before, so someone had to move them!", etc.
