In the moment Mika was becoming a vampire his thoughts were for Yuu to escape and be safe. For him Akane and the other children were already dead, so they are not an obsession for him. And the novels, info books said that. Plus, after years pass the only obsession they have is blood.
Akane to him is family, the same as Yuu. Although if you read the Michaela novels he was always more interest in Yuu than anyone else in their family and talked a lot about his smile and how much it means to him. You can take this as you want, but point is human Mika and vampire Mika like Yuu the most. No, you're the one who's completely missing the point because you're too deep in your delusion. The thing Mika had a connection with before he turned was his Hyakuya family. His whole family who was murdered in front of him. Yes, he was wishing for Yuu to run away, but his last human words were "you finally called us your family". In his mind it was always his family as a whole, not Yuu > *. Mika and Yuu became obsessed with protecting with what was left of their family. This is more evident in Yuu because of how he kazokus everyone around him when he thought Mika was dead, less evident in Mika because he's surrounded by assholes and thinks Yuu is in danger all the time so he's more stressed.
What do you think would happen if they found out their entire family or a single member was still alive? They would become obsessed with saving them too, not discard them to protect another member because he's more special. No one is more special than other. Yuu and Mika were the eldest so they felt responsible for protecting the youngest. That was also why Mika spoke with Yuu a lot as a kid, they were the same age and he related with him the most. That doesn't mean he would sacrifice Akane on a heartbeat to save Yuu or sacrifice Yuu to save Akane. It would mean he would probably sacrifice himself to save them both because he loves them both as he loved everyone else.
The only point I'm seeing here is that you want to make this about the homo OTP you like to fantasize about when it has always been about the last survivors of a family struggling to protect what was left of it. Yuu isn't more important than Akane just like she isn't more important than Mika. They're all on the same level here, they were just too dead to prove it.

Look, I am not a fujo nor I care about shipping in the series. I am mostly here for the story even if it can be cliche. I am very aware of the family thing in the story, especially from Yuu's side and I agree with many of your points but you are taking my argument about how special the dual protagonists feel for each other as me liking the pairing.
You like it or not, from Mika's side he likes Yuu the most. Read the Michaela novels if you want more proof. This doesn't mean he cares less for the rest of the children but some people have someone closer to them than others. Yuu's reaction in this chapter proves he still can go berserk over his dead family which Ferid knew he would as he used Akane's head to make him go ful demon.
Anyways, for me whatever happens next with Akane I am very curious about. Mika falling for her or not, doesn't really matter to me but I hope her coming back is not for shipping purposes as another anon said above.

I scanned the entire first section. fangs on 4f actually translated it, but the first part will probably be the only part translated, since it turns out that adding text, as simple as that is, takes up a lot of my time.
