When people bring up the fact that her waiting that long wasn't "realistic", was the time travel that was never fucking explained realistic?
The director of the anime put all these touching scenes between the two only to have it end like this. And isn't the point of a protagonist is that we can feel ourselves in their shoes? So he loses all those years of his own life to save this girl, and she just moves on, fucks their friend and has a child with him.
I understand the point of the story wasn't romance but at the same time, I understand perfectly why people got pissed off at the ending. At least MC still has best mom.

It does, the problem is the author couldn't execute it properly. If you've read any of his other works most of his series end with abrupt dissatisfying ending, Usually with the MC getting shafted in one way or another. Under another writer, this series could have been much better than what we got.

Airi believed in him from the beginning, even when he didn’t believe in himself. Remember that scene under bridge when Airi revealed why she believed in Satoru? And how her kindness kept him going? How she basically hid him from the police? Or the all important scene at the end where she helps Satoru remember the various outcomes from his time traveling trips?
It’s a story about a man, who thought he was useless to the world, changing the past and saving lives. It’s about a man who made a difference in the world.
Kayo was able to live a happy life and that's why Satoru cried in the hospital scene, because all his hard work to protect her paid off. It wasn't because he was expecting something from her in the future and even if he did, that was years ago, I highly doubt you have the same feelings from a childhood crush of yours that you do now.
The anime was different from the manga and left out a scene where Airi prevents a paparazi from snapping a photo of the boy who was in a coma for 15 years instead of the teacher. In the manga, the background of the scene is all white, even when Airi and Satoru lock eyes.
I really question your reading comprehension if you think Airi was forced with all this foreshadowing and techniques the manga artist used.

The reason that or any of Airi's scenes where removed post coma were because it literally added almost nothing and just served to add meaning to the ending.
