How do you guys handle new cards in anki?
I have them all at the end of the reviews, and press "easy" on all new cards twice to push them instantly to 4 days interval.

Reminder to press good on your failed reviews. It'll make your progress through the deck more efficient.

>I didn't even set the hotkeys, it's already there by default, I think you can see them when you hover over the buttons
Yeah, those are all default keyboard shortcuts. As far as I know (old version) you can't change them or add additional shortcut keys to those functions.

I use autohotkey to mirror those shortcuts to my mouse. So most of the time I'm just using the scroll wheel on the mouse (down for space bar (show answer/good), up for 1 (again) and clicking it for R (repeat audio)).

I was skimming through some old folders and came across this image which I saved from 99chan in 2011. I had totally forgotten about it and never actually got round to using it, but to my surprise it contains all the resources which are typically recommended in these threads.

It lists a bunch of other resources too that I've never seen mentioned here though. Has anyone here used them? Are they any good?

ふ is ふ , which is something between fu and hu. Neither of those sounds actually exists in japanese.

>>142201566
I can't read romaji
>>
>>142201566
yes as long as you pronounce the "u" in "hu" correctly so that it influences the h

in english, the h has undefined location. notice how "hah" and "he" put more turbulence in different parts of the mouth

the japanese "u" is pronounced closer to the center of the mouth than the english "u", both the tongue part and the lips part

this makes it push the "h" in "hu" into a location that is close to, but not identical to, the english "f" sound

loanwords with "fa" and "fi" sequences can be pronounced with h, though it is increasingly considered incorrect to do so. meanwhile, "hu"/"fu" merely has to be between "h" and "f".
>>
>>142201642
You should do Heisig's RTR (remembering the romanji)

Worth bearing in mind that chart is about old people.

And modern spelling reform mostly swapped づ for ず and ぢ for じ (and the exceptions were because of just logical spelling relationship to つ and ち), so it doesn't even make sense to use standard spelling as though the difference were preserved there.

People stop frequenting this general once they can read most of the things they want to read. At that point /djt/ simply doesn't have anything to offer you that you couldn't get on other more fitting communities, like Japanaese media recommendations and what not.

While I don't know about fluent I do think a lot of people reached a rather solid level in Japanese thanks to /djt/.

Overall that's a pretty damn good image, especially for the time - I don't think there's much reason to have a physical kanji dictionary anymore, and textbook-style learning clashes with the DJT philosophy, but otherwise it's got some good info.

One such piece of info being the mentioning of Kenkyusha. If an anon is reading this and doesn't have it, pls go download it and install it for Rikaisama, it covers fewer terms but usually has better definitions than EDICT. You can just switch back and forth between them by pressing P.

I don't know what I'm talking about either but the で probably just implies the one who released the picture is from/of the men fighting the Syrian government. Or Maybe it means the video was released by "the mean fighting the Syrian government", so them as a whole being the subject.

And I think it's not a video of Yasua, but by/from Yasuda. Then the last line seems more like "He entrusted the release of the picture to other men"

It's not the particle で, it's the copula

安田さんという人のビデオ can mean either a video of yasuda or a video made by yasuda, that info is something you need context for

頼む means to entrust, to ask, to rely on someone, etc.
here it is in passive form so it means he was being asked by other men for the photos

I'm reading よつばと! too actually. Someone said it was really easy, and it was true because I've only got like 70 days of Core 6k but I can read it pretty well, and actually makes me laugh sometimes, not sure if it's legitimately funny or because I manage to grasp the simplest of humor in Japanese it's funnier than it should be.

It's also my first manga that isn't a porn doujin and I love it, IT'S LIKE READING ANIME

I tried this but it didn't work.

As a last resort, I tried reinstalling Rikaisama and for some reason that fixed it, although now if I set the extensions.rikaisama.epwingusewine string's value to "false" it stops working again (this time I get no error message at all though, absolutely nothing happens if I try to activate EPWING with extensions.rikaisama.epwingusewine set to "false").

Anyway, for whatever reason it's working now. Thanks everyone.

Japanese grammar is the easiest in the world. Korean sounds like shit (reason why k-pop is unbearable) and chinese looks like shit (all ideograms from start to end!).
If you want all the shitty latin grammar with the declinations for the nouns, pronouns, adjectives, plus the gender related shit... yes, come on learn spanish (or french. Or italian). Be my guest.

So you start with japanese. And you stop there because all the rest is a fucking pain.

Thing with english is it's more mix 'n match, you have like 4 forms of the actual verbs (play, plays, played, playing, and I think that's it) and the rest is done with auxiliary things like did, have, will, etc.
Spanish barely has any of the auxiliary things and instead has a fucking million forms for each verb, and add to that irregular verbs which you have to memorize.
Japanese conjugates in a similar way to spanish, but there's only a couple conjugations for each verb (as opposed to Spanish) and there's only like 12 irregular verbs.

But now, im lonely, basically a neet, and all I have is 20 year old neets on an imageboard. All I want is an some otaku girl I can talk to like 20 mins a day, talk about anime, and maybe play some games.

Im sick of messaging nips. I want some english otaku girls.

I was a retard at the time. One of the first girls I liked because she wasn't a norm You get a load of undeserved confidence when you are online. I just went for it. I did like her. She was an artist, and im the guy who keeps spamming about wanting to marry a japanese art girl.

Anyway, Im a highschooler. I still love doing my hobbies. I just hope I dont fuck everything up when i'm in college, and miss out being with a qt otaku girl.

I asked a girl out in my grade early this year. We almost did, I would just have to meet up with her in school again to plan it. So I didn't stood her up. But I didn't do it Even though she watched anime, I didn't actually like her. I wanted to be with an art girl, someone I like.

So I asked her out, got a huge rush of happy chemicals, but then I blew it off. Just so I can do my neet hobbies, which I love. But now all im doing is hugging my pillow in my bed, thinking about being with a girl.

Hanahira is a terrible VN but the most commonly recommended one for beginners because of its simple sentence structure and easy kanji.

That's sad to hear. I was going to play that soon. I was hoping for something like YuruYuri in vn form.
>>
>>142211367
Because there's no way you learned shit from taking a single year of Japanese in school, you'll need to have the raw text available to make it easy to look up words and grammar structures you don't know.
>>
>>142211367
So you just need to hover over it to get a translation. Don't expect to read a VN without having to lookup a new kanji every 5 sentences any time soon. If you had to copy paste each one individually you'd never get anywhere.

First Google result for texthooker should be all you need. I'll also add this to the spoonfeed because as far as I know an anon from ITT made it and it's great: http://pastebin.com/raw/DgZ84qwk

If you defend a Japanese college course you're baiting, even if you genuinely believe it.

It's not about being faster than self study, it's about being stupidly slow compared to self study. You can learn Hiragana and Katakana on realkana.com within 5 hours if you try hard and basic grammar within another 10 hours with Tae Kim's guide if you try hard.

You are the one that went full sperg making fun of others saying their methods are just slow as fuck and that they're jelly.
>>
>>142211779
>it's about being stupidly slow compared to self study
90% of my Japanese course was self study. You just go in there so the teacher makes sure you're on the right track + give written / oral exams, and then cram with notecards and audiobooks when you get home. It's still self study, just structured. And structure is what a lot of people need.
>>
>>142212000
You know that's not what self study means, and you undeniably learned slower doing college classes than if you had actually done self study for a year instead.
>>
>>142211474

>>
>>142212108
>and you undeniably learned slower doing college classes than if you had actually done self study for a year instead.
Definitely not true. There's no way I would have stayed up for hours every night crammed over thousands of notecards in anticipation for the next test, or done the 30+ pages of homework due every week. No fucking way I would have done that by myself.

Maybe some people have that kind of self discipline, but definitely not me.
>>
>>142212000
