Of course not. I believe you werent around when it was airing. Mamare even visited.
>>
>>142152197
>ge complains that 'nothing happens and it's pacing is terrible'

But that's exactly what it is. Nothing is fucking happening. The plot just unclimactically rolls over. I'm not even talking about action scenes, I'm talking about maintaining a simple dramatic arc that builds suspense. Log Horizon does absolutely nothing to emphasise how its issues are actually a problem. Even in a character driven, intrigue focused plot can you create tension.

Log Horizon does none of that, or at least nothing that actually appeals to me. Either they try to involve too many issues, only briefly glancing each over then moving on to the next so that you have no time to empathise, or they drag a single momentary passage of a larger issue for so long the viewer loses interest.

Log Horizon is, for all intents and purposes, "Nothing happens: The anime".

>>142154017
No.

People told me the LN is arguably better.

So if you're interested int he plot, you should probably do the good ol' read. But don't support this show with your attention.
>>
SAO was objectively bad but still a lot of fun. LH can get pretty slow at times and frankly had similar plot holes.

I don't really think you can make a great case that LH is strictly better than SAO.
>>
>>142152197
So, OP, how does it feel to finish your tenth anime ever?
>>
>>142155998

Besides the kid arcs, log horizon has a ton happening. If you are seriously going to argue "nothing happens" then you haven't even watched the show. That or you consider anything that isn't action as "nothing happening".

Log horizon isn't an action show, its closer to sol with politics set in an mmo world.
>>
>>142152197
They're both terrible.
>>
>>142155998

If you don't like political power plays and MMO mechanics being represented with realistic life counterparts, then you won't like Log Horizon.

TFW we didn't get new Nyanta gear for the end of S2
>>
>>142152197
He is right, though, the pacing is terrible. However, SAO is just as bad.
Really, this problem is very common in LN adaptations and LNs/VNs themselves, where a lot of authors just simply don't know how to pace the narrative.
>>
>>142163671
I felt more pacing problems in S2. Maybe it's because they ran out of novels and consulted Mamare's notes and himself instead of reviewed volumes.
>>
>>142152197
>nothing happens
>pacing is terrible
Not only is he right about the above wrt Log Horizon, but it also applies to a large percentage of modern anime (2010 onwards). SAO was one of the few shows released in the last 6 years that had a clear plot and followed it through until the end with very little braindead SoL garbage to drag it down in between.

Why would it be retarded of your friend to prefer anime that actually have a story to tell and aren't simply waifu simulators? Are you seriously that far gone?
>>
>>142163912
Episodes 1-12 of S2 weaved between two novels and covered 10 chapters (in S1, each chapter was covered in one episode), then there was an unnecessary filler episode (episode 13). Episode 14 skimmed through volume 9 (which wasn't officially printed, but already fully written), episodes 15-20 went through volume 8 (going back to S1's formula), and 21-25 covered volume 10 (which was being written when S2 aired).

Even though the directors and screenwriters were the same between S1 and S2, they made some weird decisions. I can understand separating volume 6 chapter 5 into two episodes, but that filler episode could've been used for Kanami's episode instead of cramming it all into one episode.
>>
LH S1 took a bit of time to take off but ultimately ended up very interesting with the way it actually played with the "trapped in a game" on a mechanical level rather than using it as an excuse for shitty action scenes from authors who don't know how to write them.

LH S2 is worse than anything with SAO in the title, by a large margin. What the fuck.

AS far as MMO fanwank anime goes, Log Horizon is definitely one of the better ones. The first season was an epic tale of glasses adjusting political intrigue with its fair share of cute girls and cool fights, but the second season went downhill a bit. I hear the source material is good enough to motivate someone to learn Japanese.
>>
>>142164567
Problem about the second season is it takes a different stance from the first.

First season is about worldbuilding and adjusting to the world. Second season is about the changes that are occurring to the world as a result of them being there, as well as the "greater scope villain" being introduced.

I found S2 relatively enjoyable because I knew what was coming and what the anime skipped out on. For example, some DTP backstories were mentioned in outside material, but the DTP members got shoved into the main story with the expectation that we about them.

Also, the nips loved William's speech episode. Maybe I haven't looked hard enough, but haven't I seen anyone that vocally hated it over there.
>>
S2 was absolutely terrible.
>>
>>142152197
>Creator posts on /a/
>Goes to jail

Coincidence?
>>
>>142164971
As someone who's only seen the anime, I felt a little lost at times, felt like I should've been reading the LNs alongside watching them adapted or something. It's a really cool setting, but I guess it felt like a lot of it was rushed despite spending so much time on it? I think there's just a lot to it, fits better in a book.
>>
>>142164971
Oh fuck, just realized I somehow deleted a word. It should read
>expectation that we care about them.

>>142165036
He just applied method acting to his writing, and it didn't turn out so well. Kadokawa hasn't seemed to care, though, since they're still going ahead with volume 10. We'll just have to see how well it sells.

>>142165099
NHK really wanted to push out a S2, fast. I remember a bunch of us being surprised that S2 came the fall after S1 ended.

If they waited a year or two to make it, it probably would've turned out better. Instead, we got DEEN and a rushed job.
>>
I enjoyed it, but desu it's not that good on an objective level. I've played mmo's and enjoy world building and economics and shit like that, but if you're someone who doesn't then the show honestly has very little to offer you. It's certainly not a show I recommend to people who don't have the proper background needed to enjoy it, and it's certainly not "SAO done right," as many people claim.

Log Horizon wasn't good, m8. It wasn't as bad as SAO, no, but that's not the same thing.

Only thing it really had going for it was politics, and given that most of the characters were shallow as fuck, that never became complex or really interesting.

Oh, and the OP, I guess. That was good.

To be fair Log horizons S2 is far more shit than SAO 2.

Spends far too much time on characters no one gives a fuck about and need to drop this shitty love triangle, it's not funny or amusing.

I remember being so hyped after the ending of S1 and was just given such a garbage sequel. The only good episodes were when MC's old teammates were back for a short while.

I really enjoyed Log Horizon.
I'd honestly put it in my top 10 though i think it's because i love politics, economics, world building and comfy SOL as opposed to blind action scenes.
So i can completely understand why someone wouldn't like it.

I've also just realised i have almost no good LH reaction images. A pity really, since it had a lot of good faces in the anime.

One of the first friends I made in real life liked SAO because it was like that MMORPG of Final Fantasy. Said that all the "numbers" were there. Then I told him he was blind since I didn't see any damn numbers, I figure he was talking about stats. Showed him Log Horizon and now he hates SAO.
