Movie was essentially garbage.

>>142133226
She already did have suffering in season 2 when she's introduced. Mika is pretty much embarrassed or taught a lesson by Akane at every turn, the one female Enforcer who she crushes on has a dyke lover, and she's the Chief's sidekick despite not wanting to be.

It's been a while but I remember season 2 being only entertaining for seeing what stupid plot twists they were building up to after about 3 episodes, and it just kept getting stupider and stupider. Season 1 was pretty fantastic, the movie wasn't as good as that but I still thought it was more coherent and enjoyable than 2.

The one gripe I have is the overwhelming Engrish.
>>
>>142132995
>everyone hypes the movie because the original studio and Urbouchi are working on it
>turns out to be nothing more then an inflated length episode with a higher budget
>story is nonsensical
>all development Akane has is thrown away to regress her character back to the start more or less of season 1 of the show
>Ginoza does literally nothing 99% of the movie until the end where he shows up be magically on time to save Kougami's ass
>Nothing with the Sibyl system being used on a foreign nation's political structure or the inference of its value/influence on foreign governments is explored
>No background on the film antagonists at all

>>142133331
Even if that's true, that still makes the second season more enjoyable then the movie. By the midway point was literally a chore to simply stay focus and watch it to the end.

>Ginoza does literally nothing 99% of the movie until the end where he shows up be magically on time to save Kougami's ass
I wish there was more of him but right after the crew all shows up Akane tells him to go find him. Kougami was tired and even collapsed for a second so he had plenty of time to catch up.

>>Nothing with the Sibyl system being used on a foreign nation's political structure or the inference of its value/influence on foreign governments is explored
Akane literally monologues about this towards the end of the movie.

>story is nonsensical
I thought it was pretty easy to follow although like you said the antagonists just being storyless mercenaries made it hard to care for them beyond their fight scenes looking cool

>all development Akane has is thrown away to regress her character back to the start more or less of season 1 of the show
I really really disagree, could you elaborate on what you mean by this?

Do you honestly think endless exposition is good story telling? The amount of what the Sibyl system does is "oh the military police were basically criminals so we tricked them into hacking the psycho pass readers so we could use dominators on them".

It was stupid.

>Do you honestly think endless exposition is good story telling?

It kind of comes with the genre, I've learned to accept it as the norm and just be happy when it isn't present.

Also every season has repeatedly hammered in the point that Sibyl is ridiculously morally gray so I'm not sure I understand your gripe with their plan.
>>
>>142133487
>>142133634
>Akane tells him to go find him
And he was able to instantly find him and the Black Big Boss expy within seconds of arriving from Japan. Pretty much a deus ex machina usage right there.
>Akane literally monologues about this toward the end of the movie.
Which answers nothing, explores nothing, and does really add nothing to the effect as >>142133533 points out.
>I thought it was pretty easy to follow
That doesn't make it good. We aren't even given the impression the dude in charge of the Military Police under the dictator aka Chairman Han was planning a coup until well after the epilogue concluded and he was dead. The mercenaries were cool but completely wasted potential because they were for all intents and purposes glorified mooks to be killed off without any of them having a cool fight besides the leader facing off against both Kougami and Ginoza at the end. The hot blonde with the wire abilities? Shoots a bit and then dies in an explosion, the two dudes in the power suits? Die off-screen. The bad boy who was beating on Kougami before the boss took over his interrogation, died off screen. The entire movie is wasted potential, cliches, and boring resolutions tossed and tied together into one haphazard dysfunctional story.
>I really really disagree.
So you think Akane's development through season 1 and season 2 as she matures, learns to become more flexible, intuitive, and acting like a proper detective while looking beyond the scope of what Sibyl tells her to do or the crutch of technology is wrong?

It was a pretty but otherwise pretty bad movie.
>>
>>142132560
I still haven't watched S2

How bad is bad?
>>
>>142133634
That's not a justification for the movie sucking so much proverbial ass that it could squirt out hemorrhoids of awful writing and be okay'd in doing so. Sibyl being "morally grey" means nothing in the context that its an incredibly generic and boring tangent to define how its written in the movie.
>>
>>142133742
Rewatch the final sequence, it wasn't instant. He had his while schizo scene and a good part of his fight before Ginzo showed up. You're acting as if he was extremely far and not in the same general area.

It was pretty clear to me that the military chief was staging a coup from the instant he came up with that plan to hide Akanes death, and it was foreshadowed that he was really discontent with how the chairman was running things.

Again, I agree that the mercenaries were wasted potential.

I don't see how you didn't see Akanes development present, especially when characters even note how much she's grown several times. Showing instead of telling is optimal but doing both doesn't somehow cancel things out.

Everyone is either stupid, too busy, or not in charge. It's frustrating to watch.

The movie is pretty dumb but fun.
>>
>>142133896
So season 2 is like Beverly Hills Cop?
>>
>>142133875
I've watched the movie literally a second time earlier today. Han was perfectly willing to allow Akane to die, either "accidentally" or not at worse case so that doesn't add up at all with Wong's case here. Ginoza simply runs off when told by Akane to back him up well after Kougami and the black mercenary leader are away from the main fighting with the Military Police.

As for Akane, mother fucker she's literally regressed to the same level of naviety and ignorance that completely contradicts how she's portrayed by the end of the first season much less fully matured in the second season while tutoring Mika.

Its a bad movie. I'm honestly not even being hyperbolic when I say it was a dumb as Guilty Crown or Valvrave when it came to the series' conclusion.

Mika is basically a more angry and emotionally unstable Akane who is apprenticed to Akane after the events of season 1 while Kougami is MIA. She also is more devoted and delusional in her loyalty to Sibyl then Akane ever was and has more difficulty separating fact from reality about Sibyl's flaws.

Kamui being crazy was the best thing about S2 besides Mika and Evil-Kougami-Who-is-actually the current Sibyl chief's super evil son. Most of the butthurt about S2 is it more or less recycles S1's story and that a certain sexy lady being pizza'd pissed off a lot people.

Putting aside the fact that you just cherrypicked my arguments, no. It's more about the fact that she'd even bother to focus on something like combat. The Akane in S1 could barely pull the trigger of the Dominator, let alone physically attack someone and then pull a (real) gun on them. Is that not character development?

So I've seen the first five or so episodes of Psycho Pass. I'm not too enthusiastic about it thus far. The animation and art design is cool. Not really digging the characters so far. Should I press on to a more favorable part of the series or drop it at this point?

Confirmed by the creators of the show

Urobuchi: Ohh! If they were a vampire, and Frankenstein…then the next installment’s bad guy will be a werewolf, right!

Ubukata: Nah, I mean, Kougami has that wolf image anyway given his name. (TN: Kougami is a totally made-from-scratch surname, and the kanji 狡噛 mean “cunning/sly” and “to bite/gnash”.) He follows the wild (re: natural, feral) nature of his and ends up away from where humans live… Makishima’s the vampire, Kamui’s Frankenstein, and Kougami’s the werewolf. Which would mean…Akane’s the Little Monster!? (TN: refers to a series with many adaptations whose characters include a boy named Kaibutsu (the little monster), plus Dracula, Wolfman, and Frankenstein.)

Urobuchi: Hahaha! *laughs*
>>
When I watched it I had about the same reaction. I had some major difficulty reconciling how any society ever could get to a point where we let a computer rule our emotions and will obliterate a person who becomes what this computer considers to be unstable, even if said person hasn't committed a single crime yet. I had even more trouble understanding how a society could get to that point without a fail safe for a person like Makishima, because one had to show up eventually that wouldn't allow himself to be absorbed into the collective.

The movie reconciled these thoughts when it revealed that every place on the planet except for Japan is at war and just a shitty place to be. I would totally give myself to be ruled by the collective if my other option is living in modern day Syria.

That said, season one was alright. Main dude was kinda cool, but main girl was a lot more interesting, yet didn't get well developed in season 1. Season 2, main girl becomes much more interesting character, and a worthy lead, main guy is gone and it wasn't much of a loss. Movie was mostly a pointless masturbation. Nothing of real value happened in the movie (except revealing what is going on in the rest of the world, which they could have done in the series), it was just so that they could bring back the lead male and do some more action sequences with him.

6.5/10. Worth a watch, but there are better anime out there.

>are they actually a mental illness, or are they actually the people from the crash because his brain was made up off multiple brains (and the documents seem to make it look like it's only three of them anyway)?
Kamui is a literal fucking mess of a character. I wouldn't be surprised if the person who came up with it was smacked across the face, and they only had to use it because they realized they'd run out of time to come up with anything else.
>>
>>142141979
>without a fail safe for a person like Makishima
Putting his brain in a jar to attach it to Sybil is the failsafe. I'm still vaguely disappointed it didn't happen. Would've been a dark karmic end for him, subsumed into the collective of Sybil.

That said, there probably could've been a better way to get him caught, though. As is, the procedure seems to basically be "don't tell the police anything, and let them bumble around until they figure it out and capture him alive." Although I suppose they didn't actually know he was irregular until Akane tried to Dominator him.
