Goku only had two fights in that saga and lost both of them. Vegeta actually kicked more ass than anyone that saga and was literally only beaten because of his own hubris.

Kind of? Most fights boil down to having a strong character fight the new opponent and lose thus establishing that the new threat is above the current power levels. Then people go learn new techniques and fight losing again to the second form of the new threat. Then finally after third form has been reached we get the climactic fight which in some way directly involves Goku and either a spirit bomb or enhance Kamehameha.
And mook fights are like that too. The Ginyu's show up after Vegeta has gotten strong enough to beat Freiza's henchmen and then Recomb proceeds to demolish the group until Goku shows up showing just how much more powerful he's become.
16 states that he's as strong as form 1 cell and proceeds to lose against form 2 cell in a heartbeat. This is after Piccolo/nail/kami loses to form 1 cell who has absorbed many towns.
Buu arc is the same cycle. DBZ is literally the poster child of jobbing if we use the definition in the thread (not the tv tropes one). I've been saying this for years though.
