I would just write and publish a book, plain and simple. I already have some experience in writing, my good friend is getting a degree in marketing, and people in my Uni might help me get it to a good publisher. I plan on working for a publishing agency after graduating, anyway, and seeing how even utter shit gets published in my country, getting something with such a good and unique concept to get published would not be hard (seeing how every work this anime had inspired is also gone now). I'm not planning to make millions with it, but getting a boost of popularity so that people will buy my other stuff would be neat.

What the concept that would work? I feel that Eastern audiences who eat up anime premises are vastly different to everyone else, especially in literature. An essentially "western flavoured" anime premise would be wonky at best; and what aspects would you use from the original anime into your adaptation?
This is assuming that you're in a western country, however. But really, I think it applies to any country outside Japan for this matter (and maybe Korea and Hong Kong, since they've managed their drama with similar premises quite well over the past few years)

I don't know if it counts, but Wind Warriors could be a very strong contender for erasure, as it was responsible for a period where Miyazaki refused to have his work published in the west.
As a result it did cause trouble for the state of anime out of Japan, as the works that are now recognized, could have been recognized sooner if it wasn't for this piece of shit of a movie.
And for those who slept under a rock (even though I'm sure you used Google and saw the magnificent cover art), this is the first port of Nausicaa in the western world, a movie that was cut so much I'd rather say it was amputated.
It's only worth it for the first cover, it's priceless.
