UBW was shit. I mean it. I am not sarcastic about it. I hate it because after watching Fate Zero and the last scene with Shirou i had big hopes for UBW. But after i watched the first episodes i was like shocked how terrible UBW was because Shirou was no badass, just a typical shounen boy who wants to protect everyone he knows. And then Saber forms into an high school girl who has abandoned her entire character from Fate Zero and Rin who's just a typical Tsundere who likes Shirou but never says it. Those in comparison to Kiritsugu who was a real badass, a complex anti-hero who sacrificed his wife and his child for the sake of the world, Kirei and Gilgamesh who were some sadistic psychos but were badasses, Rider who was just sympathetic and cool because he was and acted like a real king. And not just the characters, the logic in UBW did like disappear, when at the end Shirou took his power from Rin, he could use a Reality Marble?? Even Rider was tired out after using such an attack and Rin had the power although she isn't even a servant? And not to forget the laughable story. Shirou, Rin and Saber are fighting a war where they could die and they make a picnic in a park????? I was like wtf. The hero has to pick the majority over his family or friends since they're the smaller number, or else he's not a hero since the hero saves the many rather than the few. However that isn't to say that if he chooses to save something else from the majority, that such a thing would be wrong either, but he's no longer a hero like that. By saving something other than the plain majority, you are recognizing that as far as the world matters you are the villain, since you didn't save them all and instead chose to save someone close to you.

If you read Prisma, then you know the specifics for how the grail war work are different than normal. A hero isn't summoned, rather their soul is subjugated within the form of a card, that can be installed upon a person to give them the power or knowledge of that hero.
Its a cheaper method of summoning than summoning the full heroes at least. You install a hero's soul to a card, and then install that to a person in order to fight. In this grail war the master has to be part of the fight, and its about how you use the heroes power since the hero is nothing but just raw power that overwrites the master a bit here. The hero is just a weapon in a raw sense.

Bit misleading; he's not dooming humanity, they are still stated to adapt and survive no matter what happens here. Its just that they would adapt and survive faster if this girl died for their sake to speed up their evolution a bit.
In the time it takes to evolve, some will have died, which means the correct path to save the most people is to kill her. If you're just looking at it in a Kiritsugu way, one life is less than a dozen. However just because the majority is saved by that action, there is a an inhumanity of sacrificing people for the sake of altruism and humanity that can't be condoned.
From a human perspective of the majority there's no doubt that the correct choice is to kill her in the story, but there are times when it feels more noble to be the villain even when you know some won't be saved because of this, in order to protect those you love.

That whole thing isn't the Nasuverse Dictionary Definition Of A Hero, it's the definition Kiritsugu ultimately comes up with to justify his actions. Like 80% of the characters in the Fate series are Real, Certified Heroes and almost none of them try to break it all down into numbers like that.
Shirou deciding he's a villain for choosing to prioritize Miyu over the people of the world isn't the author saying he's a villain, because that's something 100% of shonen heroes would do. It's /him/ saying that he's a villain because it goes against what he grew up understanding.

There are conditions for using the cards it seems. We don't know if its as simple as knowing the chant, or if its being picked by the grail.
Those who are picked however seem to have the knowledge of how to use the cards and how to install them instinctively in their brain. Ilya and Shirou both by instinct understood the proper way to use it, while Bazett or Rin could not use it this way so far, and admit only Ilya or Miyu can do it.
This is why Bazett handed over the cards, since only Ilya could use them.

Normally cards contain aspect of specific hero that is installed on user of card, but Shirou's card was blank. Luckily for him, EMIYA exist in throne of heroes and thus when Shirou used card on himself card rewrited itself to become EMIYA card. Basically instead of card overwriting Shirou, Shirou overwrited card.

Childish or not childish, The Fate Zero characters at least are steadfast in their fulfilling their stupid utopian ambitions for the world until the last few episodes. Idiotic or not, they fucking commit hardcore. They sacrifice a shit ton of stuff to achieve what turns out to be something that in the end could never exist. The brutal reality of just how blind they are never goes away while UBW tends to be a case where the naive idealism of Shirou actually wins out in the end, which is where I think it falls short compared to Zero.
What I am trying to say is that childish or not, Zero smashes naive idealism in the face while UBW embraces it too much in some points.

Julian told her he was a magus, he thought he had her under lock and key for awhile ever since he took her in, she pretended to accept the mission to stop him, really she was going to give him her card, turns out it was all a test by Julian to see if she was a betrayer, he sent Shinji to watch her in case she joined Shirou which she did. If things went wrong then he takes them both out.
You say she couldn't know he's a magus, its literally the same situation described in Fate, where Zouken sent Sakura over to spy on Shirou originally but she ended up defecting.
She didn't leave a corpse not because she was a doll, if she was a doll she still would have left a body as shown with Shinji. She didn't leave a body behind because before she hit the ground Julian had already snatched her back within his palm using his fake NP he showed before. You see her body being consumed by shadows and teleported away before she dies.
As she was dying Julian either implanted her soul into a puppet to make her easier to control, or healed her but still used some voodoo to make her easier to control, if that's where you want to go with it. Since Julian realized she couldn't be trusted like Beato and Angelica, he decided to keep her in a perpetual madness on a short leash as Berserker.

A person who only judges things by numbers is also the type who would sacrifice innocent children on a rumor that it would cure famine in the world for example. The ends justify the means has always had many glaring flaws when applied realistically. But on the other side of the equation, Nasu doesn't hide the fact that personal sentiment can be selfish and hypocritical. If anything, the message should be that "the right thing" isn't something easy to gauge.
Shirou was always at heart more of a Spiderman tier Neutral Good type. It's why I get confused why people act like HF was an alternate Shirou instead of a practical application of what Shirou believed the ideal he should follow should be. And an ideal isn't static because people aren't static, they change and develop, just like all heroes do in their careers. If you didn't have that "worthless sentiment" you wouldn't be a hero in the first place.
