That I've enjoyed. I fucking love detective novels. What I'm more disappointed in is that he hasn't abused resets to gain mastery/knowledge of one person or thing. Like he should have everyone's movements for the first 4 days perfectly memorized. He could learn how to pick locks and read journals or look through Emilia's underwear. He could get Beatrice or Puck teach him one simple spell each reset, and by like the 4th time he could hold his own. He is still far from grasping the capabilities of reviving.
The biggest disappointment is that he hasn't even considered why his save point has moved. Yet, she somehow got her hands in the power of the other witches, most likely the genes the witch cult guys use, which drove her into a frenzy and absorbed the other witches afterwards.
Now, doesn't that sound familiar? Apparently we have 7 witches with the names of the sins in actual time with Subaru's story, and Subaru, has absorbed the ability of the bishop of greed, despite the fact that he can't even use the power properly, and have no aptitude to use proper magic.
Also, Satella and the witch of envy, are apparently not one and the same, and fight for control, with the "witch being the result of the powers being absorbed. If Subaru continues to gather more power, it may end up making him into Satella, or maybe he will transfer all the powers by accident to Emilia. His curse has to do with time travel, so perhaps Emilia becomes the witch and goes to the past to fuck shit up, resulting in the story of the witch.
Who knows really, maybe Subaru himself will become the witch, since his situation is kinda hinting at going the same way as Satella's.

He's gathering information so he can understand what happened, since he cares for the people in the mansion, and because, if Rem dies again by being complacent everyone will suspect him so he's fucked either way. He now has a solid clue as to what is causing all the trouble, aside from Rem who he's gaining trust with in the current loop.
Running away would mean throwing the best chance at staying near Emilia into the trash, and leaving the people in the mansion who he came to care for to an uncertain and tragic fate, which he does not want.

Okay, lets get everything clear here. The only people that defend Subaru's idiocy are spoilerfags and anime fags. Almost nobody from the WN community says Subaru is NOT an idiot, because he is. The main problem stems from the fact that people call him a shallow and shitty MC, which is not true. Another problem is that people think he is going to stay a idiot forever, which he does not. I don't know about you people but annoying idiot MC to badass isn't really that uncommon of a trope. He isn't a static character, he actually goes through entire loaves of character development. Not to mention depths of content surrounding him, even 430+ chapters in he's still an enigma of a human being. Because he is like an ant hill where the deeper you go, the more tunnels pop up along the way. That's why when people aren't sperging out people have theories and speculations of discussion that span entire threads, multiple for that matter. But the further you go in the more understandable his actions are, not justifiable, but understandable.
All in all, my main gripe is that people are shitting on the MC for the wrong reasons and people are defending the MC for the wrong reasons as well.

How would you go about it exactly? The third time he ran because he wanted to catch the "culprit" thinking it was going to attack the mansion, he wasn't running away, he probably had the intention of catching him and presenting the culprit to then to warn of danger, but since it was Rem that all turned into shit.
For the relationships part, he wants to try and recreate what happened as much as possible so things happen the same way and he can try to find out who cursed him and Rem. It's going to take a mental toll on him, and he is not in control of the checkpoints, so it's not like he can get friendly with everyone make a checkpoint and check the village for the shaman.

That's because he thinks the Shaman is targetting Emilia's household specifically, he if he up and leaves by not making it clear he's part of it or in the presence of Rem and Ram, he may not act, and it's not like he can just figure that out on his own, and if he focused entirely on it, and ran to figure that out, if Rem spotted him on the streets in case he decided to stalk her to see what would happen when she went into the village things may not work out as well.
Also he's going about it logically, there was no way to know what happened the first time so he made everything work out the same way, dies being assaulted and decides that someone wants to harm someone in the mansion, because there's no point in targeting the new servant in his mind, so he was killed because he was in the way of the real target. Since that was also a fluke, he got depressed and didn't feel like doing anything, so he begged for protection from Beatrice.
He's being sensible, it's easy to call it shit since we get to see more than him and have more time to judge, but being in his shoes in that situation is different.

They forget that the assumption is that the shaman is targeting Emilia's mansion, so if he simply leaves to figure out who it is, he will not even bother with him.

Let me summarize the happening for people who think he's being too slow, or stupid about it.
1: He dies in his sleep, he figures someone must have attacked him so he tries to make everything work out the same way to understand what happened in the 4th night.
2: Dies being assaulted in the halls, after he starts puking profusely and slowly dying. He figures that there's no reason to target him specifically since he's just a servant in the mansion, and that someone must have done a thing to the people in the mansion, and the one who assaulted him was on his way to kill Emilia or Rosewall and Subaru was in the way, or eliminating everyone in the mansion.
3: Previously he had asked Beatrice on information about a magic that could kill someone in their sleep, or slowly kill then, aka curses. He figures someone must have cursed the place and tried to assault the people in it, only to find out this time the one who did it was Rem, because he apparently stinks of the witch.
4: He becomes depressed with the revelation, and now figures out he can't even talk about the time loop powers to Emilia since he felt he would die, or something bad was going on. He asks Beatrice for protection, since he now assumes Rem, must have killed him all those times now, first time either by poison or simple assault. Since that was proven wrong since she died, and he finds out they held his hands when he had a nightmare, so they're not entirely cold.
5: Current loop, is trying to make things work the same way as 1 and 2, so he can figure out who the shaman is, mental breakdown ensues, and now he's going to the village with Rem and Ram to get the Shaman's attention.
That's it.

Again, what you don't seem to understand, is that he NEEDS Rem or Ram in the mix, because he's a new face, and the possibility of someone targeting then implies he knows who the maids are, and besides, last time only Rem died, so he's probably thinking it's not meant to target everyone in the mansion but the sisters specifically to cause grief to the people inside.
The village people know Rem, and Ram, so he expects the Shaman to know as well. If he goes alone, he will most likely finish with his duties and nothing will happen, since nobody from the mansion that is known like then will get attention.
