If it was Ichigo's he should then have his own Sub Shinigami powers, unless they were removed by some means.

I think she is going to do something useful. Two chapters ago we got to see meaningful character development from Orihime. She was finally going to be able to protect the one she loves the most in life. Instead of being protected by Ichigo, Orihime would be doing the protecting.
I don't see all of this development adding up to a few Kurosaki-kuns and then Orihime is kicked out of the room. If this does end up happening, it would be pointless. Not only would it show Orihime's complete worthlessness, but it would also highlight the ineffectiveness of one of the strongest powers in Bleach.
If the above scenario happened, she would have been better off helping Chad fend off the statues or Ishida in his fight with Haschwalth. In those fights she could be relegated to being the white mage and simply provide support when needed.
All in all, I believe Orihime will do something relevant. Whether it is stopping the rain or saving Ichigo from Yhwach, we will finally see the results from all her training with Rukia and others. This is her last chance to shine, I really think she will protect Ichigoeven if it means sacrificing herself for him

Well, technically Kuugo, Giriko, and Tsukishima are all dead. As Plus souls and not humans they should have had their basic spirit skills more or less reset upon entering Soul Society, and unless they're Shinigami now, or got some help from Urahara, they shouldn't have physical bodies and/or their Fullbring items can't enter SoulSociety, so they can't actually access their powers anyhow.

Basically he can put a memory of himself doing whatever the fuck he wants into anywhere in their past.

That's why the "now" of the ground set a trap, and why Tsukishima knew stuff about Byakuya's bankai. Because by effecting his memory, Byakuya and Tsukishima we behaving as if that memory happened.
It's pretty useful, but as we saw, not particularly powerful. His main strength is in getting others to fight for him.

It's not just "memories" though. It's "history". Not in the sense that he changes the timeline or anything, but he himself experiences the entirety of what it was like living with the person whose past he inserted himself into. To be specific, he didn't just alter Byakuya's memory, for example. He literally inserted himself into Byakuya's personal history to the point where he (Facebook) remembers training alongside him every day of his life and learning all about his bankai. It wasn't just knowledge Facebook gained, he gained the actual fight experience to the point where he, a mere human, was able to stand toe to toe against one of the strongest shinigami captains.

I think he inserts himself as is most convenient to the story he changes, and only as far as that specific story goes. Which is why the inconsistencies break the victim's minds.
When inserting himself into Orihime's backstory to become extremely relevant to her life, he becomes her brother. Because Sora is fundamental to her life up to that point, and he is convenient.
When inserting himself into Byakuya's Bankai, he becomes the one who developped it alongside Byakuya. There is no one to usurp as far as we know, thus he merely becomes a new aspect of that past. Specifically the training and what is relevant to it, not Byakuya's entire life.
When inserting himself into their battleground, he sets up traps as is convenient to his present location and fight. Since the area has no real history, his power is at its strongest there, making it full on reality warping.

I wouldn't say it's never been hinted at. Yoruichi was called bake-neko, which can roughly be translated as werecat, several times. We've already seen that achieving such transformations are possible with Komamura. Half the fandom expected Yoruichi to transform into a werecat hybrid, since we knew Yoruichi could transform into an animal since the very begining. We also knew that she has secret and unknown powers that are different from your usual Shinigami abilities.

Well that's just it. Rangiku isn't average for her character type. As a character we've seen her play both silly and serious which is rare for shonen to do for a secondary character. Then you have the fact that she's actually driven plot points forward despite being a character type usually only used for fanservice namely with her relationships with Gin and Isshin, or the whole deal with the hogyuoku. She also has the most distinct captain/vice-captain relationship with Hitsugaya where she isn't a protege to him or the fact that she's willing to disobey a direct order.
What I actually really like about her is that despite her usually bubbly and happy personality she's actually got a brooding side and doesn't like appearing vulnerable to other characters, often downplaying her true feelings, and the best part is that Gin is the only character to call her out on this.
Also she has the best facial reactions.

Just going to jump onto this post and say I really liked the teamwork that she and Hitsugaya displayed at the beginning of this arc; using Haineko to create vacuum pockets in Hitsugaya's ice barrier is definitely one of them most creative Shikai interactions we've seen and I wish there were more I could compare it to.

Hitsugaya is a prodigy so he can surpass her in terms of strength since she's not as talented nor is she hard working enough to make up for the talent difference.
However she is more experienced both as a Shinigami and as a person. Hitsugaya never forgets that he's her captain but their interactions are different from the interactions between Isshin and Rangiku. They have their own synergy that works.

I actually want to contest this point with that Rangiku's laziness comes from a disinterest in bureaucracy and that she is actively aiming to be stronger and that she actually has some of the highest feats compared to the other vice-captains.
I've always felt that with his lack of experience Hitsugaya is probably among the weakest of captains but is made up for with Rangiku being one of the stronger vice-captains so much like his zanpaktou they have the smallest gap in power between them, compared to the other captains and their vice-captains.

I can buy most of that except I think you're overestimating her strength a little bit. Renji and Ikkaku and 1st division vice captain are stronger than Rangiku and I'd say Kira is about as strong if not a little stringer than her.

Hey, nice to see someone who doesn't just conform to one of two characters.
Saying that, I'm a Rukiafag myself but I actually really like Matsumoto as a character, she's interesting, funny and can be serious too, her up lifting speech to Inoue was heartwarming and I'd really like to learn more about her backstory.
And while my tastes usually pertain to more petite women, I can't deny that Rangiku has an absolutely great design.

She might not shine as much as some of the other characters in combat but her design and personality and interaction with the other characters make her fun. Plus Kubo uses her wisely and doesn't give us too much of Rangiku at the expense of other characters.
I honestly expected that we would get more fan service out of her.For some reason I had the feeling Kubo would overuse her in that way but he's judicious with it and spreads around the fan service responsibility well.
I wouldn't mind a little more Rangiku fan service though
