Bakugo didn't need Deku or the others. 2 seconds after they were in the air Gran Torino appeared and BTFO 80% of the villains. He could have gotten away easily on his own.
But the escape isn't the point, it's that Deku and the rest try to become heroes. What should they have done? Should they have just stayed home and Deku narrates the story this way:
