Gatari has always varied wildly in quality from arc to arc, even from the beginning despite what some people here will say about the series turning to shit after a set point. If you're really not feeling the cast at all then I'd say that you should just drop it and not waste any more of your time.

Consider looking into the Kizu movies, were Shaft is actually approaching the series with the anime format in mind instead of cutting out chunks of text from the LNs and then voicing it word-for-word with some scenery porn and occasional fanservice over it. It's fine not to like this because it doesn't even work well, conversations that take a couple minutes to read in the LNs span entire episodes with the way Shaft insists on doing it (and not due to greater detail in the anime or anything, more often than not there's less detail even)
