Nah OP, I really love seacats, and a lot more than Higurashi. The VN is of my very favourite /a/ related media.
Unless you're talking about the anime vs Higurashi's.
>>
Taken as a complete package I'd say Higurashi is better. Umineko at its best was better than Higurashi, but it peaked around episode 5 or 6 and went downhill pretty fast over the course of the last couple of episodes.
>>
>>141810997
I think episodes 3-6 are the high point of Umineko, with 7 as the weakest.
The thing is, I don't have a problem with the revelations, or what was not revealed in 7 and 8 at all. I think both have strong materia
7 feels too much like a Funeral, and was a sludge to get through, whereas 8 is too upbeat and fantasy based and needed more moments actually grounded in reality (though from what I've seen of the manga for 8, it fixes a lot of the issues I had with it).
A mix of them both with more of the "fun" moments and fantasy and reality instead of splitting both sides up into to episodes would be close to perfect, imo. Much more enjoyable to read.

Alright, let's establish a few "facts" so we can shitpost about our tastes:

Belphegor is the best stake.
OMK fighting sprites > original sprites > PS3 sprites > shit > OMK dialogue sprites.
No one did anything wrong.
Kinzo is best grandpa and best character in Umineko in general.

>>
I'm glad they made battler have golden skin again. That actually has plot relevance.
>>
One thing I don't get about Black Battler is that didn't Dlanor say back in EP5 that what pieces did had to fit their original personality and the "real" person was capable of doing what the piece did (hence why she thanked him for doing what Bern-Battler did)

Does that mean Battler had it in him to be a murderous sociopath?
>>
>>141816394
Explain? When did he ever have gold skin?
>>
>>141816464
"Gold" as in darker than white skin but not dark enough to be black or brown.

Battler's white skin in the PS3 sprites made it much easier to doubt that he was Rudolph's son.
>>
One thing I find funny (not sure how intentional it is) is that Battler spends most of Episode 8 trying to get Ange to move on from the past and leave the Island behind and live in the future when he himself basically kills himself when he could have left the island and continued living. And that way Ange wouldn't have been alone either - he fucked them both over.
>>
>>141816522
Ahh, he looks a bit too fake-tan orange for me in the original sprites.
I'll admit I like the paler skin from a purely aesthetic point of view. It goes better with the rest of his design, imo.
>>
Both Kyrie and Battler seem to wear crosses on their clothing (inverted in Battler's case).
I wonder if it was intentional - are there any other characters wearing crosses?
>>
>>141816608
Your opinion isn't wrong. I'm glad they made it darker again, though. It was part of how the question arcs' foreshadowing worked. Uncertainty as to battler's paternage wasn't one of the intended things; when he couldn't say "I am a Asumu's son" that was supposed to imply that Rudolph had another son out of wedlock and they got swapped.
>>
Rosa > Natushi > Eva > Kyrie

Don't you ever dare to respond to me when your opinion is different.
>>
>>141816686
Hmm, I played with the PS3 sprites and it never really occurred to me that Battler wasn't Rudolf's real son.
Personally, from the moment it was revealed that Asumu wasn't his mother, bearing in mind earlier Kyrie had said that she and Asumu had the same duedate for their babies (in episode 3 I think?), I was pretty certain that he was Rudolf and Kyrie's son.

Though I originally thought that the Sumadera family had swapped the babies because they disproved of the Ushiromiya's, not Rudolf himself.
>>
>>141816739
Natushi a best, Rosa a worst though.
>>
>>141816421
Honestly, a lot about him is a mystery, looking at just OMK.

He really seems to hate his role as the culprit but still does it. What's making Black Battler kill everyone if even Black Battler doesn't want to kill everyone?

Who actually summoned him? Why does he need to be summoned if the Battler culprit theories created him? What does he do between being created and being summoned?

Why is Shannon so much different around him?

Why is his boss version so different from his regular version?
>>

Just passing through to say that When Seacats Cry (sic) is superb, and you should read it if you're already finished with Umineko.

Don't worry, it is extremely enjoyable, even if you will miss a few references, the writing is great, and it heavily expands upon the whole meta-fiction concept.

Ange made it off the island and Battler wanted her to move on from the tragedy.

Battler "kills himself" with Beatrice because he wanted to undo the mistake that led to all of this. He only wants Beatrice now because he "believes" in her. I actually equate this with Christianity and how if you "lose your life for My sake, you will keep it".

It's just shitty writing to justify Battler coming back a gazillion years later. Not that guy, but I'm gonna try to explain briefly what's my viewpoint on it.

Featherine, Lambda and Bern mention numerous times that there is no evidence left in 199-whatever of what transpired on that night in 1986, and they claim it in red, if I recall correctly.

The point is, if you can't figure out the truth because it's literally impossible, you are free to believe whatever you want, so why not believe something that you want to believe?

For all we know, Tohya and Featherine are two con artists trying to swindle Ange. 199-whatever viewpoint is unreliable, and so is 1986.

After all, it's all fiction. Schroedinger's box. A bunch of lies that might or might not coincide with the truth.

Whatever we know about 1986 is covered in mystery and told by numerous contradicting stories, and whatever we know about 199-whatever is told from Ange's viewpoint.
>>
>>141822580
>Keep telling yourself that when EP8 exists.
The point was that Ange was looking for the truth for the wrong reasons, and not allowing herself to live in her time.
Getting the truth wouldn't help her one bit, and in the first place there isn't a one simple "truth".
"The truth" changes based on the lens of the observer, and you can only speculate based on known facts and biased observer accounts (in this case Eva's diary) about what really happened.
The point was that the "Truth" wasn't what Ange was really looking for in the end, as she learned by the end of the story.

And the story clearly shows the bad side to believing in a fantasy too - the whole thing was catalysed because Yasu deluded his/herself into believing in something that wasn't there, and took it way too far.

That's the catbox. It's here since EP2 and it's okay, it works. What I'm talking about is how this catbox is used in the later issues to call heartless anyone who doesn't go with Ange's bullshit. Goats are assholes because they theorize, Bern is a bitch because she says that Kinzo didn't like baby-killing body-hiding Natsuhi (however it's perfectly okay for Natsuhi to lie about a dead man), and all that stuff.

>>141822930
>The point was that Ange was looking for the truth for the wrong reasons, and not allowing herself to live in her time.
Except it was done by "you must believe everyone is innocent somehow" instead of "it's irrelevant now just move on". And Ange's part in the story relies on adults being complete retard who tolerate harassment at ridiculous levels.

It'd be fine if it was just one viewpoint, but it's also the author's viewpoint and he keeps reminding you of it. If you go with the trick ending (which is just calling things without embellishing them unecessarily) you're forced to become a schizophrenic murderer.
The only counterweight to the magic viewpoint is Yasu's flashback, but it doesn't means much when he's so glorified in the last installments.

Kumasawa, honestly. She was always peeking around corners and spying on people and apparently had a rep for being intimately familiar with the island's legends. Found her more suspicious than Genji, too, because of the very fact that she'd been employed nearly as long but hadn't earned the eagle. Maria also never mentioned what the Beatrice who gave her the umbrella looked like and it would have made perfect sense for the portrait to have been how she looked as a younger woman. I think I nurtured the pet theory that she was Beatrice until around EP3 when she 'turned into' Virgilia, most likely.
