>>
>>141759585
I don't know, it seems to me like it's lacking something. It's like they threw everything people praise other slice of life shows for together in one pot and just let it boil. Yes, there are pretty backgrounds, mellow soundtrack, endearing characters and subtle, not in-your-face comedy but holistically, it just doesn't do it for me. Still, it is absolutely amazing by the sum of its parts, which only makes me feel sadder as I can't quite figure out why I can't enjoy it like others seem to be.
>>
>>141760392
You hit the nail on the head anon. They are doing it by the book, without a real understanding of the genre.

They will misuse the soundtrack and fuck up the atmosphere, the directing is mediocre bordering poor, there's absolutely no rhythm in the editing, the voice acting is just a little too reserved. There's probably more things I'm forgetting.

I'm really surprised how people just seem to be completely unfazed by this
>>
>>141760392
>it seems to me like it's lacking something
Flying Witch is missing a lot of things. Its real strength comes from having characters so likeable that you just want to spend more time with them. In all other regards, it honestly doesn't do anything special. It's appeal is simply down to having some excellent characters.

It's called translating instead of making shit up. 運び屋さん implies nothing of the spiritual/etc sort like 'harbinger', if you listen to the actual Jap dialogue that's the point, "he sends winter away and brings us spring" or whatever the dick she said. CR are just 4kids-tier rewriters who would rather 'improve' the dialogue instead of just translating it with its original intention as a translator fucking should. IMO, the weak point of Flying witch is the story, hand down. It SOL with almost zero long term plot. You have to admit this weakness.

However, the method of story (or lack thereof) telling is very fascinating. The dialogue is well written. Even more, in some skit; for example, the story telling of Chinatsu chasing Chito has been done pure visually without a single dialogue and it work perfectly. The overall atmosphere is calm and set the tone that easy to follow. Combine with the picturesque scenery of Hirosaki. This world is real magic.

The portray of character is another strong point. Chinatsu is the best child character i saw in the long time, in all media. Akane is mysterious yet lovable character. Makoto is comparable with Aria's Akari. Even Kei who I think lackluster at first, prove himself to be essential for the story as the only straight man.

Finally, the picture sequencing in this show is top notch. It better than some Hollywood's director pieces (ahem, Zack Snyder, I look at you). Picture sequencing is very important element of the filming. Sometime it's the only thing that separate good film from bad film.

AOTS?, I don't think so. It certainly have strong points though and they are really, really strong.

Look at the example, notice how it says harbringer of spring. There's no such thing as a courier of spring.

When translating from one language to another, you don't use phrases that don't mean anything because it's somehow closer to the original.
>>
>>141761379
Shame you vacuum edited that line and didn't take context into consideration when your doing your purely literal translations.

I'll assume by the effort you've gone to to defend that one line that the rest of Asenshi's script is full of ridiculously overly literal and overly simplified dialogue. I'm glad I stuck with HS in that case.

What is with this show and dredging up the biggest retards on this board?

Harbinger fits because it's a sign or person that foretells or comes before something else.

A courier delivers, or brings the thing with them.

He came before spring to tell them of its coming, he did not bring it with him, therefore he is not a courier.

Too bad that's not close to the original line. You don't get to make up bullshit because it sounds cooler to you. If the writers want to call someone the courierman of springtime, which is a bit of an odd title in moon too just as in English and not implying anything like harbinger in moon either, then you don't call them the harbinger. You're just a rewrite faggot at that point you scrub.

運び屋 doesn't mean courier, so first and foremost, saying it does means you didn't even bother reading the entire dictionary entry. In fact there's no direct english analogue. So by choosing Harbringer the translator chose the best possible fit, that properly conveys the original meaning.

I wouldn't call the Asenshi line a translation. The subtle nuances of the big guy being a spiritual being have been removed. He's now just a typical disgruntled postman rather than a being who is capable of influencing the actual fucking weather.

I bet Asenshi dev's didn't even know what harbringer meant, so they went with the contexless literal translation.

Saying 'context' over and over again doesn't mean shit anon. And adding spring to 運び屋さん doesn't make him a harbinger.

The quirkiness of the concept of a deliveryman of spring is what the line intended by using 運び屋さん, but I guess CR thought such a concept would be too confusing for your confused little EOP's like yourself and so slapped a generic fantasy sounding title on him, losing the original intention completely. No worse than localizing 110 as 911. Unironically, that was also Asenshi.

Fansubbers aren't making themselves out to be pro's with subscription based systems, so who cares how much they fuck up. CR is absolute scrub-tier worse than many though and have the gall to charge shekels which is why they can get rekt.

"Nothing happens" doesn't literally mean there are no events in the anime. Obviously they do things.

All it means is that there's no narrative tension building. Sometimes people don't want an exciting story to rile them up.
