Another thing I love about Re:Zero is the inane and incoherent criticisms to seems to invoke from buttflustered anons who were disappointed that their gamble of hating the series ahead of time didn't pay off.
If there's one thing Re:Zero definitely doesn't lack, it's plot. Most of the character development is happening to Subaru, which is only a problem for people who wanted a self-insert MC and don't know how to handle him expressing emotions for himself.
As for torture porn, this isn't anywhere near the edginess of something like Mirai Nikki or Akame Ga Kill.

The entire point of those episodes were to build up the relationship between Subaru and the maids to make episode 7 have a bigger impact. If you cut that out episode 7 would've been absolute garbage. It ONLY works because you had time to see Subaru get closer to them.
It's a 25 episode anime. Why do they need to rush anything. The plot will come as they reveal more.

It's necessary for them to keep each new scenario fresh and for each loop to provide Subaru with at least some new piece of information (so that the pacing doesn't grind to a halt), and yet they need to balance that with keeping Subaru's actions realistic. Given the nature of the premise, I think they've managed to find a good balance so far. Hopefully they can keep it up.
