If it's a setting or game that follow similar rules to reality, or at least the same TREND you actually have to be pretty powerful to span a bow that's worth a damn.
Yeah, you might have eye hand coordination with something meant to hunt squirrels or birds, but the guy with tree trunk arms pulling the warbow also probably shoots about that well, or if he doesn't quite shoot that well, it doesn't matter because HIS bow doesn't need to go in someone's eye.
Although, he probably can because traditionally, a lot of people who can use "Grown Ass Man" bows intended for war and hunting big game are really, really good shots.
A more aristocratic version will be like Robin Hood, and be handy with a sword. The more Yeoman/Everyman sort will be like Little John, and will still kick peoples asses, he will just use a 6 foot stick as big around as your wrists to do it.
Finally you have the "Middle Earth" Ranger type, which will be pretty brawny too, actually. Along with being generally athletic, and wise, and intelligent, and experienced, and look good at 80. Aragorn is a beast. The other lesser, Rangers are probably pretty boss too, and going by the example of Faramir's loyal men harrying Mordor, even relatively normal picked men from Gondor, never mind "actual Numenorians and their retainers who fucked off Innawoods and hang out with elves are too.
Well, you need some good strength to draw a powerful bow. Though it's not so much as other boards would want to tell you. No, longbow archers weren't some superhuman mutants with bulging muscles and crippled spines that could tear a french knight in two with their bare hands.

I'm not sure about Gladiator, since ascendancies are so big but the block can be achieved otherwise. At a heavy investment of course, but it should fall off a bit. Definitely one of the craziest when working with a budget, and I haven't tried it out enough to say whether it falls off much.
Assassin is fucking stupid good, no idea what they were thinking. Ranger ascendancies seem kind of meh. I mean they're good, but they're just a cherry on top of something already solid. Strong, but just boosting clear speed/utility.

This is a problem with the stats, too many possible actions get crammed into one single stat. Yes, it doesn't make sense. But you still need some good hand-eye-coordination to deliberately hit something.

Demon possession is not STR building, and what you want is stamina, not just strength.
Strength - means you're physically able to draw the bow back.
Endurance - means you're physically able to hold the bow drawn back for however long it needs to be held before releasing.
Stamina - means how many times you can keep drawing the bow back and releasing before getting so tired you can't physically draw it back anymore.
In D&D's retard statline, Stamina is like a middle ground between Str and Con, which makes it a stat that doesn't actually exist so they folded archery and ranged attacks into Dex, which really has nothing to do with archery or ranged attacks at all because no one cares how nimbly you can nock an arrow to a bowstring.

Used to play Ragnarok Online as a battle priest because I wanted to prove the swordsmen that I could do better than them (which I did in Glastheim). This was at 2003 though.
Used to play Tera solo as both an archer and a slayer because I loved the thrill of battling BAMs alone, and proving skill could work against them while everyone pussied out and formed parties for the BAM-centric essential quests.
Right now though, it's mostly been Dark Souls 3 (finished with an all-Dex build wielding Grave Warden double blades).
Also played through Divinity: Original Sin (Enhanced Edition) and Grim Dawn before DS3 came out and found them quite good as RPGs.

Strength has always been important in archery. If you don't have enough strength to draw the bow, your dex/agi is useless. The more strength you have, the more steady your hands and arms will be while drawing and shooting the bow. Additionally higher levels of strength will allow you to utilize bows and/or strings that have higher draw strength requirements.
Dexterity will affect your accuracy and rate of fire, but Strength will affect your accuracy, your attack strength, your rate of fire, etc.
