Season one was a masterpiece of surreal comedy.
Season two even surpassed it. There were moments that it transcended comedy itself and reached pure Zen levels of absurdism.
Everything after season 2 (Alternative, Futari, TD) was unfunny, dame dame-less torture. I'm not even interested in the movie anymore. Even if it's better than Futari or TD, I don't want to spoil the memory of the greatness that was S1 and S2.

TD is decent enough, the director just often failed at humor, but there were still some hits. I also thought the ending was better than season 2's, so I was fine with it in the end, even if mostly due to the first two seasons existing.

Just try the first episode of TD. I thought it was flawed, but I don't regret watching it. Opinions obviously vary though.
The only thing Futari Wa adds that gets referenced by TD are the Feathers, two new detectives who are fans of the Milkies, alongside a phantom thief infiltrated into the police, but the two detectives are in TD just for jokes, so their backgrounds are basically irrelevant.
Kokoro appears several times through the show and the last episode has the return of Arsene's group, but otherwise it mostly features the Milkies, a new idol character and random characters of the week.
Can't wait for more FW and TD style of Milky Holmes since all the damedamefags had already committed suicide ages ago so thete's no need to pander to their shit taste

The first two seasons were amazing, but mostly because the staff (more like, the JC Staff) were allowed to have free rein on the material and fucked it up in an astoundingly brilliant way (the original source material was pretty boring compared to what they did).
So the third season was them trying to be more like the game, failure. Fourth season they tried to compromise between being like the first seasons, the game, and also now with an idol cash grab plugged in. Fail. What they should do is just throw all that other shit out the window and make s1/2 material.
Been browsing /a/ for a few years now without feeling engaged with the board until this thread. I hope this is like the first seasons and the threads are lively again.

Okay, after 3 episodes:
Mimorin character is an honest to god retard (as should be), Sawashiro is doing an amazing performance, there's also Emiri Katou who was really cute. Nothing else stood out so far.
But it's not as horrible as I thought it would be. They can be real jerks to each other which I didn't think can happen in this series, I thought it's Care Bears #2
