Friendly Reminder

How to tell if something is a shitpost:
>calls the community made guide/whatever method a piece of shit with no reasoning given why
>insults someone giving helpful advice with no reasoning given why
>attempts to create arguments over virtually nothing (eg opinions without facts)
>"spam questions" that are easily answered via a 1 second glance at the guide
>uses obtuse Japanese fragments interspersed with English to attempt bypass people trying to filter the shitposts
>any mention of anime being shit, or "real Japanese"
>spells the word as romaji

You have a hole in your head if you're finding somewhere for 20% of the cards you're looking at to disappear to. Mature cards are cards you've seen enough times they should be ingrained in your memory. If you aren't getting damn near a hundred percent on those then you should abandon all dreams of learning Japanese or better, just kill yourself.
Or more seriously study kanji or something, 80% actually is pretty low.

>How are japanese people so bad at rapping

I've thought about this so much, I think it's just because culturally they're still stuck in the era of like early rap where it was all about just talking and there was a lot less focus on flow

Could also just be because syllabary's are a bitch

So I've been learning grammar for a bit (yeah I know, beginner stuff, sorry) and the past negative tense of words seem to always end in なかった. That's not particularly a problem for learning, but I feel like I've never actually seen or heard this form through any media I've consumed in the past. Is it simply because I never knew of it or because that form just isn't used? It just sounds so clunky to say out loud as well (likely because I feel like I've never heard it).

Started added daily reading into the mix, which is both rewarding and enjoyable, with a goal to make a dent in either the 戯言シリーズ or ハルヒシリーズ by the year end.
What are your Japanese language goals for this year, anon?

Hopefully not regret doing vocab only at the end of the year, finish Tae Kim and hopefully finish Axanael.

There's a good chance you can read Yotsubato if you pick a little bit of grammar and vocab up on the side.
At least I could after doing a big part out of a recall/recognition deck in anki. Most of what contributed to being able to read probably came from anime, though.

I started mining when I started Satsukoi, before that I completed the Nayr's 5k deck. Satsukoi took me 4 months to complete, I mined about 2400 words/phrases, but by the end I'd only gone through about 1200, so I still have a big backlog.

By the end I was reading faster because I learned a lot of the vocab that the author liked to use. Sex scenes were definitely faster by the end because I learned a bunch of anatomy vocab. I don't feel like my grammar improved much, but I'm going through the DOJG deck now so hopefully it gets better.

>>141599585

Nvm solved, the version was too old.
>>
>>141599690
I read around 150 pages of manga and maybe half a wikipedia page worth of text. Not really brag worthy but my vocab is pretty limited.

Do you usually keep track of what you are reading like that? How does it compare to an average day of reading? How long have you been actively studying to reach that point?

>>141599766

>>
>>141599766
Yeah like >>141599782 said I don't keep track, I just copied the text from a text hooker when I was done reading this time.

This took about an hour, I usually read 15 min to an hour a day. I've been studying for about 3-4 years

Go to your browser's add-ons page/window, open the preferences for Rikaisama, then click the "Clipboard & Save" tab.

There will be a field labelled "Saved audio". You need to point this to Anki's collections.media folder if you want audio to work.

Now go to the Anki tab. There are two important fields here: "Save format" and "Field names". In the "Save format" field, you need to tell Rikaisama what information you want it to save. Here is an example:
>$d$t$r$t$n$t[sound:$a]
The above tells Rikaisama to save the dictionary form of the word you've hovered over (this means conjugations will be stripped from it, so 食べます would be saved as 食べる), the reading (hiragana characters showing pronunciation of the word), the English definition of the word, and the audio clip (if one is available).

Now for the "Field names" field. You enter into here the names of the fields in your Anki deck separated by spaces like so:
>Vocab Reading Definition Audio
You need to make sure these fields exist in your Anki deck.

Two more things.
1. You must install the Rikaisama add-on for Anki.
2. You must have open the deck that you want to save the word to (see pic)

How is your language proficiency aside from reading? In those 3~4 years, have you also reached a point wherein you can have conversations in text and speaking with others in Japanese, etc.? I'm guessing your listening proficiency is pretty reasonable given the VNs(?)
