According to her fighting in the 23rd Budokai, there's an actual style associated with it, since everyone remarked on how familiar her fighting style was. Goku, Krillin and Roshi did tend to take similar fighting poses (left leg forward, left hand with two fingers bent, right fist tucked behind waist with right leg back).
After Goku and Krillin moved the boulder, Roshi did mention he was going to teach them some actual fighting techniques,so I guess there is a bit more to it than just the lifestyle. But it's just so basic that once you've mastered it it opens you up to expand on it once you've mastered them.

Chi-chi spent her entire childhood being raised by one of Muten Roshi's pupils alone in the wilderness and had to fight of things like dinosaurs and shit. Even if she never really had a powerful drive to fight it was still always a huge part of her life, and just by sheer survival instinct she's probably a better fighter than Videl. That's why Freeza was awesome, he didn't need to breathe too much oxigen to survive. Which made it look very awkward to see him huffing and panting during his fight with Goku the entire time. He didn't have to do that at all.
