I think it's mostly because you don't really see the change happening. He becomes bros with Crow during their duel and then when we next see him underground he's more or less buddy buddies with the Lancers, even though he does go on his "ACADEMIA REEEE" quest on his own. I guess I just would've liked some character to address it in some way other than "Oh those guys? Yeah they're my nakama."

It's an absurdly fair card, it needs to use both its mats for the spin effect and even then, it's a hard OPT, and you can only use 1 of those hard OPT effects.
