Chrollo stated that his bookmark ability is relatively new, and he most likely didn't have it back during the yorknew arc (otherwise he surely would have used it against Zeno and Silva, he was at a disadvantage that whole fight). my theory is he developed it whilst on the run from hisoka, after stealing sun & moon from that meteor city elder, and the condition for using the bookmark is that in order to bookmark an ability, you need to explain how it works to someone within a fixed time of using it
eg) Let's plug in 24 hours as the fixed time. since he has explained Shalnark's black voice out loud to hisoka, he can now bookmark the ability for 24 hours.
This would even make sense assuming he did have the bookmark whilst fighting the zoldycks, because unlike hisoka, who wants to enjoy the fight to its fullest, chrollo would certainly not have had time to explain an ability to the zoldycks, who were even willing to sacrifice their own lives to kill him

I've recently finished watching through the 2011 anime version and i enjoyed every second of it. Natrually i craved more so i searched for the manga and by god was i dissapointed by the sheer lack of quality in the drawings. I've read mangas in the past like Berserk, Vagabond and this looks like a joke in comparison. Has the manga always been like this and why is the contrast in detail so different from the anime? Also i truly apologize if i come across as insulting to the fans who might like the art of the manga but it's something i've been thinking about.

Togashi is really infamous for his sliding scale of quality due to his laziness and illnesses, so its treated as a case-by-case basis sometimes due to sudden art shifts.
However, I'm not sure if it's a fair comparison to compare a weekly series like HxH to two series that were meant to be release chapters once a month... Or maybe it is fair cause all three series are infamous for long break periods, so I don't know.
Chrollo "kills" Hisoka and brings him back shortly afterwards using an ability from his book, as an extra favor for the nen remover, is what I think will happen.

Jesus christ, I've actually posted in threads saying that people who think Togashi's art is shit are newfags who've only read those two series and it turns out I'm actually onto something.
You have read two of the most entry level, high quality manga in existence. They are not the standard for manga art, and the amount of detail in a drawing isn't a gauge for quality either. Togashi's art varies depending on how sick or lazy he feels, but overall he is a very technically proficient artist with a good eye for paneling and composition.
Okay to start with, Gon in the beginning was seen as this like lowkey OP type of character that at times shows tremendous feats of ability, but later he's smacked around like a little bitch wtf happened? What ended up happening to his fishing pole? Why does he feel like he has 0 backstory other than I'm a kid that's the son of the best hunter in the world and I'm trying to find him?? He has an incredible wind-up time for a half assed attack that doesn't even kill his target. Like if it was like he had a cannon of an attack, but it had a wind up time then do it like that, not just BOOM okay the guys okay in the next part. Is the part of his that is so great his ability to learn quickly? If so why does it feel like he stagnates so much later on?
Next lets go to Killua, what the ever living fuck is up with this guy? Oh I'm OP, now I'm not, Oh I'm OP again, okay now I'm getting slapped around like a bitch. He's like only strong when he feels like it or turns his "switch" but if he can apparently turn it off and on again, WHY DOESN'T HE JUST DO IT MORE?! There's a lot more that I could say, but these are some of the biggest flaws I see. I really want to like this show I really do, but there's just so much I find wrong. Please if you can't answer this at least give me insight as to another way to think about the show that I'm not getting.
