Yes but even that didn't work because what angst is there to feel when you don't feel the bond between them and Levi to begin with. I remember not feeling a thing at their deaths and actually laughing at manlet's howl in the anime. Compare that to the actual flashbacks of Levi's childhood with his mom and Kenny, where you actually feel sorry for the boy, it's night and day and Isayama isn't exactly a genius writer. It's just how much fail that doujin fujo artist (and I suppose the editors who worked on the story with her) was at conveying any feeling at all. The VN was slightly better because it didn't focus too much on these 2 fodders and Levi's angst was more general, at least that's how I felt it and the drawings were way more expressive as well.
