Was it ALL Mumei's real thoughts? That angry bitter guy early in the episode seemed to deliberately push Mumei's buttons. It seemed like he was hoping to manipulate Mumei's emotions into causing her self-destruction after Mumei informed him that he had no place at the capital. But if Mumei died, then there would be another opening and need for kabaneri that he could fill.

Apparently, the kabaneri tend to clump together if they aren't attacking. We've seen glimpses of their gathering together in groups in past episodes. In this episode, they had gathered in a tight clump in the boiler room before Mumei killed that clump off. The outdoor clump was much bigger and must have reached critical mass when enough of them got together.
If the giant black monster is the undesirable boss titan kabane, then it seems very important to kill off clumps of kabane before they merge together to form critical mass and transform into a giant black creature. Then again, the giant black creature probably needs a lot of energy, so it might starve if it can't find more humans to drain. Can they drain dogs, deer, or pigs? There certainly seems to be a lack of living animals out in the wilderness. Since there are lots of plants, that means the kabane haven't been consuming those.

It's meant to represent the fact that killing all those Kabane in the boiler room triggered that giant horde into action. It provoked them since they're all implied to be linked.

Mumei's Kabaneri friend most likely. There's probably quite a few of them.

Probably a soldier that works for Mumei's brother. Remember, Snake told Mumei to fulfill her mission while she's "still" human. It may be that Kabaneri eventually turn into Kabane so that's why the person in Mumei's flashback was killed. Or it could be her friend's usefulness ran out and was "abandoned" (killed) as a result.
Besides, it's interesting to note that both Ikoma and Mumei had nightmares/flashbacks with family/friends asking for help.
