No. You need to start with Splash Star or Futari Wa, SS if you want a shorter olde timey experience, but FW/MH are simply better. Then Yes5 and Gogo. After that it's a crap shoot, just watch whatever doesn't bore you. Fresh is pretty fun. Hapiness Charge is really cute. Heartcatch and Go!Princess are the best looking. Suite has Sailor Moon voicing an adorable fairy who steals the show. Definitely not Maho though. It's maho.

The episodes are fucking lazy and toys literally just appear. They don't learn anything, they don't help anyone, they don't overcome some kind of challenging obstacle and it just feels like they aren't trying anywhere from the animation to the writing to the OST. They definitely learn their lesson each episode. Last week was even a literal lesson about how to approach subjects you don't like, and the week before it was about not always taking the easy way out. If you want to talk about toys appearing out of nowhere, you're looking for the first five seasons of Precure, not this one in which they need to accomplish some goal or another to appease the Linkle Stones. This isn't particularly deep writing, but it's par the course for the Precure average.
Some transformation music isn't that good, but there are some really nice OST tracks. Plus the transformations themselves are being utilized really well, unlike earlier forays in Hacha. They each feel unique, and though the girls aren't particularly smart about using them they still give each a fair share of screentime.

No, Maho is most definitely a step lower, even for Precure. I haven't seen the last couple episodes like you've mentioned, but for most of the season they spent their episodes primarily pushing Mirai and Riko's friendship. You know, the thing every other season does, except all the others branch out and explore other themes as well. They push their friendship theme so hard they actually forget to develop their characters. I'm supposed to feel sad for Mirai going back to the human world without Riko? I know practically nothing about Mirai, how the hell am I supposed to feel any emotion about any of this? They should have spent this episode (or ANY episode they spent fucking around) developing Mirai instead of pushing their friendship I care nothing about. This is a prime example of how poorly written/organized Maho is, they fucked up and they can't redo it now. Hopefully they can do something worthwhile in the human world, but from what I've seen, they haven't done much better yet.

I think what's weird is that they magically create this fairy, instead of a fairy with it's own life already coming along and explaining the sitch to the girls like normal.
